The U.S. Department of Justice filed a legal challenge to New York’s Climate Change Superfund Act last week, in the Southern District Federal Court to block the law, which charges oil and gas companies $75 billion for past greenhouse gas emissions to be paid by 2050, The act requires any company that released over a billion tons of greenhouse gases from 2000 through 2024 to pay for their share of total emissions.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 61 year old Fredrick Hallstead of McDonough for Criminal Mischief and Harassment. Deputies responded on March 12th, in the Town of Walton for a Domestic Incident in progress, where Hallstead is accused of making physical contact with a female victim, in an effort to prevent her from calling 911. Deputies subsequently located Hallstead recently and issued a summons to appear at Town of Walton Court at a later date.
The Delaware County Department of Public Works will be closing County Route 16 in the Town of Delhi to through traffic beginning at 7:00 This morning to replace a culvert pipe between the two intersections with Fleming Road. On Wednesday, the road will be closed in the Town of Franklin between the northern intersection with Fleming Road and Douglas Hall Road. The traveling public should seek alternate routes.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum announced that they will be receiving artifacts from the World Series Champion Atlanta Braves. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year Justin Holmquist of North Norwich and 20 year old Cody Marshall of Sherburne for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Holmquist and Marshall were arraigned in the City of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 cash bail, for allegedly trying to sell a controlled substance in April.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office & Port Dickinson Police stopped a vehicle on the West Service Road near Chenango Street Sunday Morning after the vehicle was observed driving erratically & striking a concrete wall. Casey Farrell of Greene was arrested for Driving while Intoxicated, resisting arrest, & refusing to submit to a Chemical Test. Farrell was arraigned in Town of Fenton court and was remanded to the Broome County Jail on $2500 cash bail.

All food and monetary donations will be given directly to Opportunities for Otsego and the Salvation Army Food Pantry to help defray the loss that both agencies will incur this year by the Holiday Train not making its annual visit to Oneonta. Officials at the Hall will receive a Bat used by David Ortiz, Spikes worn by closer Koji Uehara, a Jacket worn by Manager John Farrell, a Catcher’s helmet and mask worn by David Ross, a Glove used by shortstop Stephen Drew, batting gloves used by Xander Bogaerts & a bat used by Jonny Gomes. The Museum will open the exhibit dedicated to the 2013 Red Sox in early December in Cooperstown.

President Barack Obama will travel through New York and Pennsylvania today and tomorrow on a two-day bus tour to talk about affordable higher education for the middle class. Today the President will deliver remarks at the University at Buffalo, and Henninger High School in Syracuse. Tomorrow on Friday, the President will participate in a town hall event at Binghamton University, and will deliver remarks at an event at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
The race has been set for the Office of Otsego County Treasurer this November. Representatives for Republican Edward Keator Jr., the Treasurer for the Village of Cooperstown, and acting County Treasurer Henry “Russ” Bachman, an independent running with support from the Democratic Party, said the two hopefuls have collected the needed number of signatures to be placed on the November ballot. County Treasurer Dan Crowell will also be on the ballot because he did not announce his plans to leave office at the end of the current year until after it was too late to have his name scrubbed from the ballot. Crowell is currently on active duty with the U.S. Army. Bachman will be listed as the candidate for the Otsego First party, while Keator, who stepped into the race after Crowell signaled he would not seek re-election, is running as the candidate for Common Cents. Meanwhile, three candidates will be seeking two Oneonta town justice seats. Dawn Oliver will run on the independent Citizens for Oneonta line and on the Democratic Party line. Also running will be Sean Farrell, a Republican who previously announced his candidacy, and incumbent Bruce Smith, a Republican who has served four terms. Two Oneonta town justices will be elected in November.
