The Walton Police Department & the Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced the arrested of Walton High School teacher Eric Scofield for dissemination of indecent materials to Minors. 2 counts of a Sexually motivated felony, 7 counts of tampering with physical evidence & 5 counts of official misconduct, following a complaint that Scofield was engaging in improper communications with students. Scofield was brought to the Delaware County Correctional facility pending arraignment on the charges.

Dr. Joseph Tabone of Sidney passed away on February 12th, He moved to Sidney in 1967 where he continued his practice as a Chiropractor until his retirement in 2005. Visitation will be held at C. H. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Kyle Wedderspoon of Morris for Sex Offender Failure to Notify of Address Change within 10 days following a complaint received in Morris. Deputies were notified that Wedderspoon was no longer living at his registered address, he is a Level 1 Sex Offender, he had been living at a residence in the Town of Otego and failed to make proper notifications of his address change, he was taken into custody and processed at the Sheriff’s Office, he was released with an appearance ticket and is set to appear in the Town of Morris Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Luke Lupo of Walton man on charges of Promoting Prison Contraband, after they received a complaint from the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Lupo allegedly possessed contraband while incarcerated at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on pre-existing charges. Lupo was arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on the charges that led to his initial incarceration.
Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire at 57 Maple Street Saturday morning, 1st floor residents and visitors were able to leave the house safely, the 2nd floor apartments were under construction, the 1st floor apartment suffered water damage from fire operations, The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Mutual aid was provided by Otego, West Oneonta and Franklin fire departments. no injuries were reported.

Delaware County Business Alliance announced that Todd Pascarella has been named as the organization's new President, replacing Ray Pucci, who has retired. Pascarella has been a Delaware County Chamber & Business Alliance member for many years, and served on the board of directors for 6 years including as the Board chairman, he is also the executive director of the Catskill Revitalization Corporation, which has been recently rebuilding and restarting the Delaware & Ulster Railroad and he was co-founder of Union Grove Distillery in Arkville, and once served as the mayor of the Village of Fleischmanns.
The 1st annual Sidney Brew-to-Brew 5K on Saturday, had 180 participants finish the race and they raised about $3,000 to benefit the Uplift Collective and the Delaware Valley Humane Society. 25 year old Jon Hendley, from Oneonta, was the first male finisher and 30-year-old Lauren Castelucci of Apalachin was the first female finisher, with a time of 20:20.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute recently in the Town of Meredith, it was determined that the physical domestic had occurred in the presence of children where it was alleged that the suspect closed a car door on the victim’s leg with the intent to cause injury. Deputies arrested of 32-year-old Troy Ladlee for 3rd degree Assault, Menacing, and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Ladlee was processed and was arraigned and released. Ladlee was directed to appear in the Town of Meredith Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The City of Norwich is one of this year’s Preserve New York grantees, they will receive $20,000 to fund the Broad Street-Main Street Historic District Nomination. The City's district includes 21 contiguous buildings located between Main Street at the northern boundary to Hayes Street at the southern boundary. The Designation will update information from previously prepared National Register Nominations and encourage owners to invest in preserving and improving their historic buildings.

19 year old Jayden Aviles of Maryland, New York, appeared in Delaware County Court & pleaded guilty to 1 count of Criminally Negligent Homicide, On September 29, 2024, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched for a 1 car MVA into a house on State Route 23 in the Town of Davenport, they determined that Aviles was the driver of the vehicle and appeared to be impaired by drugs, his vehicle had hit 2 individuals in the house, with one suffering injuries and the other passing as a result of the crash. Sentencing will be held on November 18th.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office concluded the death investigation in the Town of Conklin that has been ruled a murder-suicide stemming from an ongoing family dispute. On Friday, August 22nd, 65 year old Michael Shuta of Conklin was found deceased in Montrose, Pennsylvania, Shuta’s death was ruled a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Police in Pennsylvania and New York believe that Shuta shot his nephew, 41 year old Matthew Slavetskas of Conklin, who was found dead by Officers at his Brady Hill Road residence. Detectives reported that both pistols used in the murder and the suicide were registered to Shuta.
21 year old Joseph Vanblarcom of Middletown was sentenced in Delaware County Court last week to 1 year in prison for Grand Larceny. Vanblarcom admitted that he and 2 other individuals entered City of New York property and stole a DEP owned woodchipper. VanBlarcom was placed on interim probation after his conviction, but he violated his probation when he was arrested for DWI in Ulster County, which increased his sentence to jail time.

Norwich City Police arrested 31 year old Brennon Bennett of Norwich for Failure to register as a sex offender and on a parole violation. Bennett is a Level 3 Sex Offender, who is accused of using a fraudulent address with the Norwich Police Department, where he is required to check in on a regular basis, in compliance with State Parole and Sex Offender Regulations. Bennett was convicted of 1st degree Attempted Rape in 2017, he was released from the jail & was Paroled in December. Bennett was arraigned at CAP Court and held on without bail due to prior felony convictions.

Lane is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female, for about 6 months, he was processed, arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bond.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 24 year old Amber Renwick of Otego, for 3 counts of Promotion of a Sexual Performance by a Child, 2 counts of Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child plus Sexual Misconduct, following an investigation in to a cyber tip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. In February of 2025, investigators received information from the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce of child sexual abuse material being disseminated from a Kik online social media account, Renwick did possess and send the child sexual abuse material to other users. The Sheriff’s Office & State Police Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant & she was taken in to custody, was processed and was being held for Arraignment. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded last May to a motor vehicle roll over accident in Harpersfield. 25-year-old Isaiah Caballero of Oneonta, lost control of the vehicle, it left the roadway and struck a tree, 25 year old Nyheim Golden-Williams was killed in the crash. Deputies located cocaine & a loaded pistol that did not have a serial number. Caballero was arrested at the Ulster Correctional Facility Tuesday, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, Criminal Possession of a weapon and Vehicular Manslaughter, he was arraigned and was remanded back to the Ulster Correctional facility on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies also arrested 21-year-old Alexis Lotterman of Walton for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, she was a passenger in the vehicle and was also in possession of the narcotics and firearm, she was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secured bond.

29 year old Grace Archer of Afton pleaded guilty to Driving While Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court. Archer admitted to possessing methamphetamine and driving while impaired in the village of Sidney on December 31st. Sentencing is set for July 11th, Archer is expected to be sentenced to 3 years in prison to be followed by 2 years of post-release supervision on the drug charge, and 1 year of incarceration for her DWAI conviction.

State Police responded Friday to State Route 17 west to a crash involving several vehicles. In the 1st crash, vehicles were stopped on State Route 17 due to a construction barrel in the road, a vehicle was unable to stop and struck the rear of a vehicle, causing 2 vehicles to spin, 1 of them hit the guide rail, the other vehicle, struck a different vehicle and pushed it into 1 of the original vehicles. 2 drivers were taken to Wilson Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, 2 other drivers were injured, & were treated at the scene.
The Chenango County Weekly Wastewater Surveillance Data Report showed an increase in COVID 19 levels over the past 2 weeks, which changes the county's detection level to "HIGH". County Health Officials recommend that people should wear a mask indoors in public and on public transportation, Get Tested if you have symptoms, more information is available by contacting the Chenango County Health Department at (607) 337-1660.
State Police were dispatched Saturday to assist Cherry Valley Fire with a hiker who had fallen from a waterfall down about 150-feet into a gorge. 1st responders hiked about a mile through a wooded area to locate the 32-year-old woman from Troy, she was pulled to safety and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where she was treated & released.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Emily Wood of Morris for Aggravated Harassment, following a complaint in the Town of Morris. Wood is accused of sending threatening and unwanted text messages to the victim. The defendant is set to appear in the Town of Morris Court at a later date.
Broome County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a 2-car accident on I-86 in the Town of Windsor. During the investigation, 39 year old Michael Morgan of Queens, failed a field sobriety test & was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. Morgan was processed and released on tickets returnable to the Town of Windsor Court.

Firefighters from Bainbridge, Guilford, Mount Upton, Masonville, Coventry, Franklin, Trout Creek, Afton and Sidney all responded to a structure fire at the Auto Plus Store at 4 Front Street Monday Night at about 9:00 PM. Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started, the store was closed when the fire broke out, no injuries among fire fighters were reported.

The fire at the Minnewaska State Park Preserve was contained on Sunday, according to the Governor's office. The State DEC Forest Rangers are leading the incident response in cooperation with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, State Police and many other State and local partners. Response actions in the area will continue in the coming days with a smaller force of state and local experts as fire control efforts advance. More than 200 firefighters, bulldozer operators, pilots, and other professional staff and volunteers have been working to contain the fire.
The Out Of The Woodwork Players announced that auditions will be taking place soon for "A Suessified Christmas Carol". Auditions for will be held Saturday September 10th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and Friday September 16th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, in the Bainbridge Town Hall Theater, many roles are available for children, teens and adults. The performances will be held in December.

18 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin was arraigned today on a federal indictment, for the May 14th Mass Shooting at a Buffalo Tops Supermarket that killed 10 & wounded 3 others. Gendron was arraigned on a 27-count indictment which was handed up last week, he could face the federal death penalty for the shooting. Gendron also faces a state charges in addition to the federal indictment.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Ulster County on Wednesday, July 13, shortly before 9:00PM. Investigators determined that the EF-1 tornado with 90 mile per hour winds touched down 2 miles west of Kingston, near State Route 29, it then moved southeast to just west of the NY State Thruway where it uprooted and snapped trees, displaced a car canopy. Many homes were damaged by fallen trees, thousands lost power from the storm.

State Police in Troop C arrested 63 year old Candy Barklow of Apalachin for Aggravated Vehicular Assault. Troopers were dispatched on June 6th to a report of a vehicle that struck a man working on his front lawn when he was struck. Barklow fled the scene, the victim was taken to Wilson Medical Center with serious injuries. Barklow was arrested about 25 minutes later by Vestal Police for DWI, Barklow was transported to Tioga County Central Arraignment and Processing.

The Oneonta Susquehanna Greenway announced that a groundbreaking will be held today, after the Future for Oneonta Foundation provided a $50,000 Grant to help complete a trail connecting several Oneonta Parks. 3 of 4 sections are complete and open to the public, when completed, the trail will follow the Susquehanna River for about 6 miles from the Silas Lane Loop in the West End of Oneonta to Neawha Park and around New Island in the city of Oneonta, future plans call for a possible expansion to Fortin Park in the East End of Oneonta. Otsego County sheriff's deputies arrested 52 year old Timothy Arnold of Edmeston for 1st-degree disseminating indecent material to minors and failure to notify an account change for a sex offender. Arnold was arrested Tuesday following the execution of a search warrant at his residence, he is accused of requesting nude pictures and he allegedly solicited sex from a minor, he also failed to register his social media accounts to authorities which is required by paroled sex offenders.

Lockdowns and pandemic restrictions made treatment programs difficult to access in 2020, which likely contributed to the deaths. New York State has had about 3000 overdose deaths annually since 2018.

SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras is encouraging students to get vaccinated ahead of the fall semester through a 30-day challenge he issued this week. Malatras announced that students would need to be vaccinated to return to campus, with vaccines that have FDA approval. SUNY Schools are looking to return everyone to dorms & classrooms in the 2021-22 school year, after a year of large numbers of infections on SUNY campuses, and remote learnings throughout the system.
Village of Sidney Police Department arrested 23 year old Donovan Teague of Sidney, Wednesday following an investigation into a stolen bicycle. Hancock. Fazio is accused of speeding
at 81 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone; he was released on appearance
tickets for Hancock Town Court at a later date.

17-year-old Harper Stantz has died from her injuries after
being struck by a vehicle on Beethoven Street in Binghamton Monday
afternoon. Binghamton Police reported
that Stantz and 19-year-old Britney Laserinko were walking on the sidewalk when
a Jeep driven by 33 year old Kevin Wilcox of Harpursville hit them. Wilcox is being held in the Broome County

Sitts is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 165 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and a beard, he has several distinctive tattoos on his neck and right arm, his last known address was in the Lantern Hill Trailer Park in Oneonta. Hobbie was working as a physical education teacher & was formerly a girls’ soccer coach in the Cooperstown School District. District officials alerted parents of the arrest this morning, they did not believe that any incident involving a Cooperstown Student occurred, the investigation is continuing.
60 year old Lynn Beilby of South New Berlin has been charged with animal abuse, for allegedly torturing an animal and failing to provide sustenance to an animal. Beilby is scheduled to appear in the Town of Morris Court on January 14th to answer to the charges.

State Police arrested 37 year old Michael Collins of Butternuts, for Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to a residence on Wilbur Hill Road in the town of Butternuts for a domestic dispute. After an investigation, troopers determined that Collins and a victim were involved in an argument that turned physical, where Collins is accused of choking, taking a phone away when the victim attempted to call for help and not allowing the victim to leave. Collins was arraigned in the town of Butternuts Court where he was released on his own recognizance. The judge issued an order of protection to the victim.

State Police arrested 56 year old Stephen Christoffersen of Port Crane for felony DWI, after a trooper was dispatched to a 1 car rollover on County Route 32 in the town of Greene. When the trooper arrived, he located the vehicle on its side, Christoffersen was not injured, and He was arrested and arraigned in the town of Oxford Court where he was released on his own recognizance.
The City of Oneonta Department of Public Service is repairing a water main break at 42 River Street between Ann Street and West Ann Street today. Residents on Ann Street, West Ann, and Meckley Avenue will be without water for a portion of the project. Parking on the street will not be permitted, and the street will be closed to traffic for the duration of work. State Police arrested 27 year Sabrina Gray of New Berlin for felony of Aggravated DWI after a trooper was dispatched to State Highway 12 in the town of Norwich to check on a female who appeared to be sleeping in her parked vehicle. The trooper observed the vehicle running with Gray in the driver’ seat and a 5-year-old child in the passenger’s seat. Gray was arrested & the child was turned over to a family member. Gray was arraigned in the town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 property bond.

State Police at Troop C are warning residents of a phone scam where the caller claims to be with NYSEG. Troopers recently have received several complaints from businesses where scammers threaten to cut service unless it’s immediately paid using a prepaid debit card. The scam also provides a call back number with a recorded greeting similar to that of NYSEG. Troopers warn residents never to trust anyone who calls you and asks you to make a payment using a prepaid card. If you have any questions about your NYSEG bill, call them directly.

Investigators learned that a child disclosed to another party that Prosser held the victim down in a chair and allegedly looked down the victim’s shirt in the summer, he is a registered Level 3 sex offender, and he was arraigned in the town of Oxford Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 cash bail. He is set to appear in the town of Norwich Court on December 6th. The judge also issued an order of protection to the victim.

The state Department of Health paid $1.28 billion in unnecessary Medicaid managed care premiums over a nearly six-year period for enrollees who already had private insurance, according to an audit by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. About $70.6 million of the premiums were paid to MCOs that were related through some form of ownership to the 3rd-party insurer. DiNapoli recommended DOH: Improve monitoring efforts to prevent and recover the premiums; Implement controls to remove those recipients with 3rd-party health insurance; & Review the managed care premiums, and recover unnecessary payments. Last year, billions of gallons of untreated sewage and storm water impacted more than 200 waterways in New York due to antiquated and overwhelmed sewer systems, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The report details the problems with combined sewer overflows, which commingle the water from rain and snow melt with the wastewater in combined sewer systems. There are 46 communities in New York responsible for 807 outfalls where excess untreated or partially treated wastewater is discharged from pipes directly to rivers, streams, estuaries and coastal waters when their systems are overwhelmed. The Investigation determined that the fire was caused by a projectile firework; Deputies arrested 26 year old Brett McLaughlin of Hancock, with Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks, and for violating the State’s Burn Ban. DEC Law prohibits open burning between March 16th to May 14th. McLaughlin was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Walton Court at a later date.

The New York State Fair is offering Lifetime Passes, starting next week. Fair officials announced that on Monday at 6:00 AM, 200 Lifetime Passes will be made available on the fair's online store, at nysfair.ny.gov for $200 each. The passes are metal medallions and allow free admission to the owner for any day of the fair. The owner's name will be engraved on the back of the medallion. Along with the medallion, the owner must show valid photo identification to get free admission to the fair. The medallion can be picked up at the fair's administration building starting on August 1. Governor Cuomo today announced that 10 UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters and 55 Soldiers from the New York Army National Guard's 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade have deployed to Florida to assist in the response to Hurricane Irma today. Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested 37-year-old Eric Carpenter of Plymouth for Harassment for allegedly subjecting 2 victims to physical contact during a Domestic Dispute in the Town of Plymouth. Carpenter was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on bail pending future court action.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Town of Sherburne Man for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Promoting Prison Contraband. 40-year-old Nathan Jackson is accused of possessing heroin while being detained in the Chenango County Jail; Jackson was sent back to the jail and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Court at a later date.

Governor Cuomo announced that Brooklyn's Threes Brewing Company earned top honors at the first-ever New York State Craft Beer Competition, winning the Governor's Excelsior Cup. Threes Brewing earned gold in the Light Lager category and moved on to win Best in Show. Entries were submitted from 143 breweries, with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal winners awarded in 20 categories. Numerous crews from Delaware & surrounding counties are searching for 60-year-old Wayne Lamicela of Arkville, who was reported missing while hiking on Tuesday. Lamicela did not return from a day trip at Big Indian Wilderness area in western Ulster County. Lamicela is described as a white man with brown hair, 5'8", about 130 pounds. Forest Rangers say he last wearing a black and gray striped shirt, khaki shorts, a beige ball cap with the words "New Smyrna" written on it, and a black backpack. Delaware County emergency services and Forest Rangers are working with a growing number of volunteers today; they have a command post at the Margaretville Fire Department. Anyone with information on Lamicela's whereabouts is asked to contact the State Forest Rangers, or State Police at Troop C headquarters in Sidney at 561-7400.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office Investigators arrested 30-year-old Joseph VanLeuvan of Big Indian, on 4 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, plus Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer & Reckless Driving and various traffic violations. VanLeuvan is accused of selling more than 70 bags of heroin and more than one gram of powder cocaine in the Town of Middletown during 2 transactions Wednesday. VanLeuvan was on parole since May 2016, following a 2011 burglary conviction in Ulster County. VanLeuvan was arraigned and was sent to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $250,000 cash bail.
The Harpursville Fire Department has been awarded a regional Assistance to Firefighter's Grant for $372,130 for emergency radio communications equipment. This grant was awarded to the Harpursville Fire Department, Sanitaria Springs, West Colesville, and Ouaquaga Fire Companies along with the Colesville Ambulance Service; it will enable all to upgrade their communications equipment.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office responded to Palmatier Road in the Town Greene for a reported missing person Thursday. The Missing person is identified as 17 year old Angel Kocijanski-Pruitt, she is 5’11” tall and weighs 240 pounds with long curly brown hair and blue eyes, she was last seen getting into a small gold colored car, which headed south toward State Highway 79. Deputies reported that Angel did not appear to be distressed & she had her small black dog with her in the car. State Police charged 28 year old Adam Youngblood of Binghamton was issued traffic tickets for failing to stop for a school bus, driving on the shoulder and leaving the pavement to pass on the right illegally, when he passed Chenango Forks school bus October 6th. Youngblood turned himself in after seeing the video of his vehicle on TV & Social Media; 15-year-old Alex Menard narrowly missed being hit by the Youngblood vehicle while exiting the school bus on state route 369.
37 year old Rasheen Sanders of Binghamton was found guilty Thursday after a trial in Broome County Court. Sanders was arrested in April in Binghamton by State Police, possessing about $12,000 worth of heroin for sale. Sanders was found guilty of 3 counts of 3rd degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, & tampering with physical evidence. He is expected to be sentenced on December 13th.
The New York State Public Service Commission announced that the price of natural gas and electricity this winter is expected to be lower than the 5-year historical average. A residential customer using 600 kWh per month is expected to pay about $41 per month, or about 14% less than the 5 year average, The average residential customer using 700 therms of natural gas can expect to pay about $693, or about 10% less than the 5-year historical average, The state’s major energy utilities expect to have adequate supplies on hand.

The Delaware county emergency services department announced that Delaware County sent 5 crews to Ulster County this morning. Bloomville, Delhi (2 crews), Sidney and Walton. They all arrived safely at their staging area, had a morning briefing meeting and were sent to the woods shortly after 8am. They are now out working the fire lines.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Pennsylvania man on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Tompkins Court earlier this year based on a complaint from an area business. Deputies arrested and charged 58-year-old Rowland Harris of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania for Issuing a Bad Check, & 4th degree Grand Larceny. Harris is accused of stealing property, valued in excess of $1000, for building materials, which he obtained from that business. He has been additionally charged with being a Fugitive from Justice. Harris was arraigned and posted a $10,000 bail bond in the Columbia County, Pennsylvania; he surrendered to Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies as ordered by the Columbia County Magistrate Court.
Governor Cuomo today announced New York State has begun sharing Prescription Monitoring Program information with New Jersey to prevent the stockpiling and resale of dangerous controlled substances and to help fight the abuse of prescription drugs. New York and New Jersey are using the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy InterConnect hub, which allows them to securely share their prescription data with authorized requestors from other states in the hub, which provides practitioners and pharmacists with a patient's recent controlled substance prescription information. New York began sharing the records with New Jersey on April 14th, in 8 days; over 16,000 controlled substance records have been requested, with over 12,000 of those requests coming from New York to New Jersey.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman today announced that New York, and other States, reached an agreement to settle allegations against Wyeth, & Pfizer, to resolve allegations that Wyeth knowingly underpaid rebates owed under the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program for the sales of Protonix Oral and Protonix IV between 2001 and 2006. Wyeth agreed to pay $784.6 million to the United States and the States. About $93.7 million of the settlement will resolve claims relating to New York’s Medicaid program, with the state receiving $55.6 million and the Federal government receiving $38.1 million.

Employees were handed packets detailing how many shares they were given, based on their tenure with the company. State Police arrested 21 year old Thunder Libke of Coventry for obstruction of governmental administration and 2 counts of 2nd degree harassment, after troopers responded to a Chenango County 911 report of disorderly conduct on North Road, in the town of Coventry. The first trooper on scene saw Libke and another man arguing, Libke became aggressive towards the trooper, and attempted to strike him. Libke was arraigned in Town of Afton court and was remanded to the Chenango County jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond.

Fishing and hunting bring a stream of cash to New York’s economy, generating the 2nd highest expenditures in any state at approximately $5 billion, according to a report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Nearly two million people fish, hunt or trap in New York, Fishing is the most popular, with two-thirds of New York participants fishing exclusively, followed by 28 percent who fish and hunt and nine percent who hunt only. Nearly $1.9 billion was spent on trip-related purchases including transportation, lodging and food.

Former State Senator Thomas Libous is appealing his recent conviction in federal court for lying to the FBI. Libous' attorney filed the notice of appeal Tuesday to the U.S. District Court Southern District in White Plains. Libous was sentenced to 6 months of house arrest, plus 2 years probation and a $50,000 fine, he was found guilty earlier this year of lying about using his political influence to get his son a job at a downstate law firm. The Republican lost his seat in the Senate because of the felony conviction.
The State University at Oneonta announced that 20-year-old Brandon Negron of New Windsor is no longer enrolled at the college. Negron was arrested earlier this week in connection with a threat of violence on the University campus on Yik Yak. Negron faces charges of making a terrorist threat, and aggravated harassment, following the joint investigation by University Police, Oneonta Police & State Police.

The State University Police at SUNY Oneonta arrested 20 Brandon Negron of New Windsor in connection with a threatening message posted to the Yik Yak social media platform Saturday. Negron is SUNY Oneonta student, he was charged with making a terrorist threat, & 2nd degree aggravated harassment, following a joint investigation by Oneonta Police Department and State Police. Police were notified Saturday evening of the threatening post, which threatened violence for today, police searched Negron's residence and no weapons were found, Negron was arraigned this morning in Oneonta City Court and released on bail. He remains enrolled at SUNY Oneonta while the college follows its student conduct process.
Governor Cuomo today announced the successful completion of another round of targeted crude oil tank car and rail inspections intended to improve public safety and reduce potential dangers associated with the transport of fossil fuels across New York. Last week, state and federal teams examined 541 crude oil tank cars, approximately 207 miles of track, and 80 switches. The inquiry uncovered four critical defects and 38 non-critical defects, which inspection teams took immediate action to correct and repair.

On December 2nd Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 64 year old Timothy McGrath, of Roscoe, for driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving with a blood alcohol content of .18% or greater following a report of a suspicious vehicle made by employees of the Hamden ARC. McGrath was later released on traffic tickets returnable to Hamden Town Court at a later date.
NYSEG has sent helicopter crews to conduct routine inspections of transmission lines and natural gas transmission line rights of way for many years; NYSEG announced today that they are evaluating how drones can assist in ensuring safe, reliable service to customers. Officials said that helicopters were limited in how close they could get to check on substations and lines damaged by sever storms, they have begun with a program of drone inspections at 36 NYSEG substations in Western New York. Nyseg officials said that the results are encouraging & have been operated by Coutts Brothers of Randolph, Maine who are licensed commercial pilots.
Governor Cuomo stated that on Saturday night, the Unit 2 reactor at the Indian Point Nuclear Facility was forced to shut down due to a reported power loss to several control rods. The company reports that there was no radioactivity released to the environment. The Governor directed the Department of Public Service to investigate and monitor the situation and a team was on site Sunday to begin work on the situation.
Broome County Sheriffs Deputies arrested 18-year-old Jenna Harris of Spencer for DWI after she crashed into a utility pole early Sunday morning, on Main Street in Westover. Deputies reported that Harris crossed into the opposite lanes, went over the curb and sidewalk, then hit and snapped a utility pole. Harris was arrested without incident; she refused to consent to a chemical breath test. Harris was released to appear in the Town of Union court at a later date.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli reported that Total state receipts through the first 7 months of the fiscal year totaled just under $85 billion, $181.8 million lower than the Division of the Budget’s latest projections but $1.9 billion higher than April projections. The General Fund ended October with a balance of $11.4 billion, largely due to financial settlements. Year-to-date tax collections were $5.4 million over the latest projections and nearly $1.7 billion over initial projections from the Enacted State Budget.

The bill Schumer is backing was originally proposed by former President George W. Bush in 2007 & would close the so-called "terror gap." Governor Cuomo today ordered flags on all state government buildings to be flown at half-staff in memory of New York City police officer Brian Moore, who died yesterday. Flags will be flown at half-staff beginning today, and remain at that position until Officer Moore’s interment. Officer Moore was shot while on duty over the weekend in Queens.
State Police arrested 36-year-old Alex Siltanen of Meridale for Driving While Intoxicated. This arrest occurred after Troopers responded to a Delaware County 911 report of a car on fire just off of State Highway 23 in the Town of Davenport. An investigation determined that the driver, who was the only occupant, had drifted off the westbound lane and struck a pole causing his vehicle to ignite and become fully engulfed. Siltanen had been transported to A.O. Fox Hospital but ended up having no injuries. He consented to test of his blood for alcohol and the lab results are pending. Siltanen was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Davenport Court on May 12, 2015.
Delaware County Court Judge Carl Becker has announced that he will retire, as of July 31st of this year. Becker was first elected as judge in 2002; he was re-elected to a 2nd 10-year term in 2012. An interim judge will be appointed after Becker’s retirement takes effect.
Many local fire fighters are heading to Ulster County, to try to help contain a forest fire. Evacuations were under way in upstate Ulster County Monday evening due to a major forest fire. The fire started Sunday afternoon in Summitville in Sullivan County and moved east to Ulster County. The fire destroyed about 1,000 acres late Monday; it then crossed State Route 52, which forced the evacuation of the hamlet of Cragsmoor. State Route 52 is closed from Ellenville to Monticello.

The state Health Department announced that 14 cases of the Enterovirus were confirmed in western New York. The virus has landed a significant number of children at health centers and hospitals across the country. Enterovirus results in difficulties breathing and severe respiratory issues. There is no vaccine to prevent the infection and there is no anti-viral medication to treat the infection. Prevention methods include washing hands, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies seized a quantity of drugs and arrested 35-year-old Francis Smith of Kingston today, after investigating illegally parked vehicles in Arkville. Smith was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, which violated the terms of his probation in Ulster County. Smith is accused of possessing a switchblade knife, & he may also face drug possession charges upon completion of a laboratory analysis of the seized drugs. Smith was arraigned in the Town of Middletown Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1000 cash bail.
Assemblyman Bill Magee nearly doubled his campaign coffers in the final days of his successful fight to hang onto his seat, according to the state Board of Elections. Magee raised $54,305 between August 25th and September 15th in his effort to defeat Sherrill City Commissioner Mike Hennessy in the democratic primary. Magee beat Hennessy 2,082 to 1,431; he will face Republican John Salka of Brookfield in the November election.
Home sales in New York fell 9.5% in August compared to the same period in 2013. Median sale prices stayed flat, while some areas of the state, including the Southern Tier, had an increase in homes on the market and fewer sales. Nearly 11,000 homes were sold in New York in August, the year-to-date sales total of 66,635 was a 4.4% drop compared to the same period in 2013. The median sale price so far this year was $225,000, unchanged from a year ago. Pending sales fell 1.5%.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and state Education Department Commissioner John King said a survey would be sent to each school district, seeking information on actions they have taken, to implement provisions of the Dignity for all Students Act. The Act is state's 1st anti-bullying legislation, the results of the survey will be used to identify steps that schools have taken, and model policies and practices now being implemented by districts, to help ensure students are provided safe school environments.
The New York National Guard and the State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services are giving a free two-hour training session At 11 AM Saturday on the SUNY Broome campus. The State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit conducted a 72 hour road check at four locations along I-86 & State Route 17 last week. 795 inspections were conducted, 1,341 violations discovered and 167 vehicles taken off the road for safety violations. Vehicle violations included unsecured loads, brake violations, steering violations and serious lighting defects such as inoperable turn signals, stop lamps and improper transportation of hazardous materials. 38 drivers placed out-of-service were found to have violations including improper or no commercial driver's license and hours of service violations including falsified log books.
The Chris Gibson for Congress campaign today invited the Sean Eldridge campaign to accept a geographically diverse debate schedule for the fall. Gibson’s campaign proposed A joint editorial board meeting in Poughkeepsie on September 26th, as well as debates on October 6th in Ulster County, October 16th or 23rd at WMHT in Albany, and October 14th or 20th are SUNY Oneonta.

Democratic prospective gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout was in court Thursday, as she tried to prove permanent residency in the state of New York. Teachout testified that she has been a law Professor at Fordham University in New York City since 2009 & resides in Brooklyn. Governor Cuomo’s supporters maintain that Teachout has not lived in New York state for the required 5 years in order to run for Governor, still has a recent Vermont driver’s license & a Vermont address listed on tax documents. Teachout is looking to force a Democratic Party primary against Cuomo prior to the November elections.
Federal government statistics show consumer spending in New York fell only slightly at the end of the recession, after more than a decade of gains and rebounded after 2009. There was a drop of less than 1 percent in spending from 2008 to 2009, compared to a decline of 2.5 percent nationally. From 2010 through 2012, spending rose12 percent, close to the 10.7 percent national average. The statistics show New Yorkers cut back on buying durable goods during the recession, not services. Consumption of services was up 6.8%, led by spending on housing, utilities and health care
New York has skipped out on $5.9 billion in school funding, leading to inequities in aid between rich and poor districts, and causing cuts in programs according to a new a report. New York spends the most per capita in the nation on schools, just over $19,000 per student. But the Alliance for Quality Education and other advocates said the state is still falling short. The groups claim New York hasn’t upheld a 2006 court order to increase aid to schools by $5.5 billion and has also not repaid schools for cuts made during the recession. New York froze aid to schools in the 2009-10 fiscal year then cut it by nearly $3 billion in the following two years.

26 year old Joshua Launt of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court was sentenced to 6 months in Broome County Jail and 5 years probation for the death of Ronald Gilbert. Launt was accused of assaulting Gilbert at a party in Kirkwood in 2012, Gilbert did not receive medical attention and died from brain trauma. Launt pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide earlier this year.
Delaware County Deputies investigated a one car personal injury auto accident last Tuesday. 23 year old Joseph Kinch of South Kortright was traveling on Sherwood Road in the town of Delhi when he left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Kinch was transported to O’Connor Hospital & was issued a traffic ticket for failure to keep right.
Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 32 year old Kevin ray of Norwich for 1- Count Welfare Fraud & 1- Count Offering a False Instrument for filing. Ray was issued an appearance ticket and released after an investigation into welfare fraud, where he allegedly failed to report a change in his household, and received over $3000 in assistance that he was not entitled to.

Oneonta Police Department arrested 3 people on a variety of drug charges. Arrested were 24-Year-old Adam Scully of Oneonta , 22-year-old Ray Arnold of Oneonta for criminal possession of a controlled substance, Police confiscated 11 bags of heroin, also arrested was 25-year-old Cody Clapper of Oneonta, for conspiracy, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument. Scully, Arnold and Clapper were arraigned in the City of Oneonta Court and sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending a future court action.

The Catskill Watershed Corporation has extended eligibility guidelines for its Septic Rehabilitation and Replacement Program. Homeowners within the New York City Watershed in Delaware, Greene, Schoharie, Sullivan or Ulster Counties may be eligible for assistance if their property is within 300 feet of a watercourse, and if their homes were built prior to November 2, 1995. The program pays 100% of the cost of replacing failed septic systems for permanent residences; 60% for non-primary residences. Homeowners who may be eligible for this program, should call 845-586-1400 to arrange for a CWC staff visit.
New York State of Health reported that Over 1.2 million New Yorkers have completed their applications and over 908,000 have enrolled for coverage since the launch of the Marketplace last October 1st. More than 70% of those who have enrolled to date were uninsured at the time of application. New York State of Health will continue to provide additional assistance to individuals who began the application process by March 31. All applications and enrollments must be completed by the end of the day on April 15th.
On April 3rd Delaware County Deputies participated in Operation Safe Stop to combat the illegal passing of stopped school buses. Deputies shadowed school buses during their morning and afternoon bus routes in the Downsville, Deposit, Delhi, Franklin and Stamford Central School Districts. During the Operation deputies issued 1 traffic summons to an individual that passed a Franklin School District Bus that was stopped with flashing red lights. Statistics show that increased awareness of school bus traffic laws has brought the umber of potentially deadly incidents way down since Operation Safe Stop began.
The prospects are not good for passage of a medical marijuana bill in the Legislature this year according to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver Silver said there has been “no interest” from the Senate in bringing up the issue for a vote. The Assembly’s Democratic majority included a medical-marijuana plan in its one-house budget resolution, but the issue never gained traction in closed-door budget negotiations. In his State of the State address in January, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said his administration will authorize medical marijuana on a limited basis, allowing up to 20 hospitals statewide to prescribe it to terminally ill patients.
