State Police arrested 29-year-old Kyle Whitfield of Greene, for 2nd degree Murder.   The arrest followed the investigation into a physical altercation and the subsequent stabbing death of 33-year-old James Button Jr. of Greene, at Whitfield’s residence at 132 Loomis Lane in Greene. Whitfield was arraigned in the Town of Smithville Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail without bail.  State Police were assisted at the scene by the Village of Greene Police Department.
Former New York Governor David Patterson now has a permanent presence in the Capitol's Hall of Governors. Paterson's official portrait was unveiled Sunday afternoon. Governor Andrew Cuomo introduced Paterson at the event, hailing his leadership through a time of fiscal catastrophe. Paterson took office on March 17th 2008, just as the nation's financial system began its meltdown. Paterson was lieutenant governor under Governor Eliot Spitzer and rose to governor when Spitzer resigned due to a prostitution scandal. Spitzer’s portrait has not been added to the Hall of Governor’s.  Paterson's did not to seek re-election in 2010, which cleared the way for Cuomo to successfully run.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Environmental Conservation Police arrested 34-year-old David Button Jr. of Plymouth Saturday, after he was witnessed on a trail camera trespassing and possessing a rifle, on posted property on Bates Wilson Road.  Button shot a deer with the rifle, removed the head, and left the body, he was located at his residence where the rifle and deer head were recovered, Button is a convicted felon and was not allowed to possess firearms.  Button was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Trespassing, Hunting without a License, Hunting Deer with Rimfire Ammunition, and Unlawfully Killing Protected Wildlife.
UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation announced that  this year's fundraising campaign set a goal of exceeding last year's mark of $130,000.   Money raised by the Foundation has been used to renovate the facility and upgrade equipment.     Gifts can be made by accessing the Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation Face book page and clicking on the "Donate Now" button, or by contacting the Foundation office at 337-4510.

Sidney fire fighters & the Sidney village police department responded to a fire at 7 Clinton Street in the village at around 1:25 AM today.  Sidney Police reported that 33 year old David Ruling died in the fire, the autopsy is being conducted today and the results are expected later this afternoon, investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office completed an investigation in the Town of Oxford where a subject who could not legally possess a shotgun, sold 1 to another subject who could not legally possess a shotgun.  Charged were 34-year-old Nadine Button for making a false written statement, she was released pending a future court appearance in City of Norwich Court.  Also charged, 18 year old Austin Demuth for 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon, he was located in the town of Colesville and arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $500 cash bail pending future court action.  32-year-old Eric carpenter was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, He was arraigned in The Town of Norwich Court; He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5000 bail and order to reappear in the Town of Oxford Court at later date.
