Former Oneonta Mayor David Brenner passed away Friday at the age of 90. Brenner served on the Otsego County Board of Representatives for many years, in 1985 he was elected Mayor of the City of Oneonta, a position he held for 12 years. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz Street in Oneonta. 24-year-old David Murrer of Harpursville has been indicted on a number of charges in Broome County Court, in connection with an accident on I-88 last December. Murrer was indicted by a Broome County Grand Jury for Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Manslaughter, 2nd degree Manslaughter, plus Assault, Vehicular Assault, DWI, & Reckless Driving, He is accused of crashing into a vehicle driven by Synthia Baciuska of Afton, which forced the vehicle off of the highway, it over turned, and a passenger, 67 year old Lynn Bacuiska was ejected, he was declared dead at the scene. Mrs. Baciuska suffered non-life threatening injures & was taken an area hospital for treatment.
The Oneonta Common Council is expected to vote for a new Police Chief at their next meeting tonight. Acting Chief Douglas Brenner has the endorsement of Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig, tonight's meeting will be held in the Common Council Chambers at Oneonta City Hall at 7:00 PM.
