The Unatego Central school District Board of Education
has approved of the proposal from the Oneonta Christian Academy to purchase the
former Otego Elementary School.
Superintendent Dr. Dave Richards comments:

Dr. Richards said that the purchase price was $100,000
for the building, which was built back in the 1930's.

The Unatego Central School District will be soliciting
proposals for repurposing the former Otego Elementary School, after the
previous developer failed to meet deadlines, Unatego Superintendent Dr. Dave
Richards comments:

The Otego property consists of the 2 floor former elementary
school building & 4.85 acres of adjoining land.    The Request for Proposals is available
online at unatego.org, or through the District Office at 988-5038.

A.O. Fox Hospital, part of Bassett Healthcare Network, has
been awarded $10,000 by the MultiPlan Rural Health Grant Program to help launch
a food “farmacy” based at its Tri-Town Campus in Sidney.  Spokesperson Sarah Buttice comments:

The prescription food location will open in January; Buttice
said that they will partner with local businesses including Great American,
Price Chopper, Hannaford, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, as
well as local farms and food pantries.
In Delaware County, it is estimated that more than 8,400 people suffer
from hunger.

Earlier this week, the Unatego School district Board of Education decided that they would close the Otego Elementary School building prior to the start of school this fall. Superintendent Dr. Dave Richards explains:

Richards said that there are successful instances of schools being repurposed, such as the Sidney Civic Center and the former New Berlin & South New Berlin school buildings.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced the arrest of 48-year-old Mark Barnett of Ocala Florida, for a plan to set off explosives at Target stores in Upstate New York. Barnett was arrested after discussing the plot with a wired informant, his plans called for explosions in up to 10 Target stores starting in Syracuse & then traveling south back to Florida, in to buy Target store stock at an expected lower price per share after the bombings, and then sell the stock for a profit when the price returned to higher levels.

The Unatego Central school board voted 6 to 1 Monday to close the Otego Elementary School as of August 31. Unatego Superintendent Dave Richards explains:

Richards said that the Unatego school board memebers vsited other area school buildings that have been repurposed, they hope to be able to the Otego elementary school building as a viable important building for the Otego Comuntiy.

Long time general Clinton canoe regatta participant Dave Price is being elected to the Regatta Hall of Fame on Saturday, for his contributions to the Clinton since the late 60’s. Price was asked if there was a moment along the way containing special memories:

Price has been a Regatta committee member and 2 time chairman, he helped initiate the famous “700-Mile Club” & he will be the Race starter in Cooperstown for the 37th time on Memorial Day.

General Clinton Canoe Regatta chairman John Harmon announced that the last day to get tickets for Hall of Fame dinner has been extended to May 15th, for the ceremony on May 24th:

April is Alcohol & Drug Abuse Awareness Month, and with prom & graduation seasons coming soon, it is important to remember that those events have been incorrectly viewed by generations as a rite of passage for teenagers to be introduced to alcohol, according to Dave Ramsey of the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council of Delaware County:

Ramsey pointed out that in recent years, new York state has instituted “Social Host Laws” making it illegal to serve alcohol to minors at parties at home, and making the party’s hosts liable for any damage or fatalities that may occur by serving minors alcohol.

Home sales were down 1.8% statewide in the 1st quarter of the year after reaching a 6-year high in 2013, according to the state Association of Realtors. The report showed 18,790 closed sales statewide in the first quarter of 2014, down from 19,143 in the same period of 2013. Pending sales also fell 5.6% in the 1st three months this year, while new listings dropped 7.6% from a year ago. The median sales price for homes sold statewide was $227,000, a 5.1% increase from 2013’s first quarter.
