Sidney Federal Credit Union broke ground on its first Syracuse-area branch at 8062 Brewerton Road in Cicero, SFCU Spokesman Andrew Smith explains:

Principle Design Engineering based in Norwich are the architects of the build, Construction will begin as soon as permits are approved by the town of Cicero and plans are to complete the project by late 2023 or early 2024. Membership currently stands more than 67,000 strong and assets total more than $865 million.

Fire fighters from Sidney, Unadilla, Bainbridge, Masonville & Trout Creek, responded to the report of a Tractor Trailer fire at about 4:30 this morning on I-88 in Sidney. I-88 Eastbound was closed down for firefighting & clean up, The driver was not injured, the tractor was carrying a load of wood pellets, no injuries among fire fighters were reported.

State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that traffic along a portion of State Route 80, approximately four miles north of the Village of Cooperstown will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic controlled by temporary signals until further notice. The road sustained heavy damage from last weekend's storms. Crews hope to have the situation repaired before this weekend's influx of travelers to Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame Induction weekend.

The Sidney Warriors football team pulled of an amazing comeback Friday night to defeat the Onondaga Tigers of Section 3 in overtime by a score of 42-36 in the state Class D Quarterfinals in Syracuse. Sidney scored 2 touchdowns in 19 seconds late in the 4th quarter to pull even with Onondaga, Here is WCDO’s Nate Lull & Tim Cutting with the call of the Touchdown that tied the contest:

State Police responded Friday to a reported house fire at 215 Loughlin Road in the Town of Kirkwood which resulted in the death of one individual. The investigation revealed that 72 year old Roger Simma and 67 year old Lynn Tompkins were awakened by smoke and fire in the living room of the residence. Tompkins was able to exit the residence and was attempting to assist Simma’s exit through a bedroom window, but was unable to do do due to the fire conditions. Tompkins suffered severe burns and was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital and later air lifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where he was listed in stable, but critical condition. Simma was unable to escape the home and was later located deceased as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be the faulty chimney of a wood burning stove.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that $30 million dollars will go towards developing infrastructure and testing facilities for drones. The money will be used to create a 50-mile flight traffic management system between Syracuse and Griffiss International Airport in Rome, which will feature sensors and other equipment to assist in the research and development of an infrastructure for these aircraft. The FAA is expected to allow for more drones to be for aerial photography, and educational purposes. Governor Cuomo hopes to have the new airstrip up and running by 2018.

THE LAST TIME THE WARRIORS MADE IT TO THE STATE QUARTERFINALS WAS 2006 WHICH WAS ONE YEAR AFTER THE 2005 RUN TO A CLASS-C STATE TITLE FOR SIDNEY.
