Sidney Village Police arrested
52 year old Alvin Mills of Sidney for sexual abuse & Endangering the Welfare
of a Minor, following a recent investigation by Sidney Police & State Police. Mills was remanded to the Delaware County
jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond pending future court action.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30 year old Jennifer Giacalone and 29 year old Christopher Mills of Deposit, on sealed Grand Jury Indictment Warrants issued by the Delaware County Court. Giacalone and Mills were indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury for allegedly filing false written instruments and collecting public assistance benefits which they were not lawfully entitled to. Giacalone has been charged with 9 counts of offering a false instrument for filing & 1 count of welfare fraud, Mills has been charged with 1 count of offering a false instrument for filing & 1 count of welfare fraud, they were remanded to the Delaware County Jail pending further court action.

State Police are searching for 42 year old Richard Darlin on charges of Grand Larceny & Criminal Mischief, for allegedly stealing property while staying at a residence on Mills Creek Road in Otego in March 2014. Darlin is accused of stealing a car, power tools, coins, cash and more. the town of Otego Court issued a warrant for his arrest. Anyone with information as to Darlin's whereabouts should contact the State Police at 432-4844 or email Crimetip@troopers.ny.gov.

Delaware County Sheriff Tom Mills announced that the Sunday Fundraiser at Danny's Restaurant in Walton netted nearly $30,000 for the K-9 program. The K-9 unit has become increasingly important as the county battles the ongoing drug problem. Sheriff Mills stated that the money raised would be used for the continuance of the K9 unit & the upkeep for "Ozzie"

Delaware County Sheriff Thomas Mills and Broome County Sheriff David Harder announced the arrest of a Deposit man on multiple felony drug charges. 29 year old Clint Stevens of Deposit, was arrested by members of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, and Broome County Special Investigation Unit Task Force, and charged with felony Criminal Sale and felony possession of a Controlled Substance for the sale and possession heroin and cocaine with the intent to sell. A month long investigation was concluded yesterday with a sting operation conducted on Pine Street in Deposit that resulted in the arrest of Stevens. He was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.
A bridge in Broome County will be named in memory of State Trooper Christopher Skinner. In May 2014, Skinner was outside of his cruiser issuing a traffic ticket on I- 81 in the town of Chenango when a man from Florida intentionally struck and killed him. The I-81 north and southbound bridge crossing U.S. Route 11 will be named the "Trooper Christopher G. Skinner Memorial Bridge." Gov. Cuomo signed the legislation and both the Assembly and Senate unanimously passed the measure in June.

The drug problem in Delaware County continues to accelerate at a dangerous rate & 39 County officials met at the Public Safety Building to establish a County Drug Task Force. Sheriff Tom Mills said that there are problems associated with new drugs like “Mollies” as well as some other drugs that have been around for decades:

Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies arrested 21-year-old Barbara Rico & 37-year-old Christopher Merwin, both of Delhi for 1 count each of Petty Larceny. Rico & Merwin are accused of stealing checks from a Town of Hamden home where Rico was staying as a guest. Rico was arrested at the Delaware County Jail & was issued an appearance ticket in the Town of Hamden Court; Merwin was arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail. These arrests are a result of a joint investigation between the Sheriff’s Office and the Village of Sidney and Village of Walton Police Departments. Merwin and Rico face additional charges in the Village of Sidney and Village of Walton.
