The Final Report from the National Transportation Safety Board has been released regarding a 2024 plane crash in Delaware County. The report said that the accident was likely due to the pilot; 76 year old Roger Beggs who had spatial disorientation while flying in poor weather conditions, the single-engine, Piper Malibu crashed on June 30, 2024, near Trout Creek, 12 minutes after taking off from the Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta, on its way to Yeager Airport in Charleston, West Virginia. State Police identified the victims of the crash as Roger Beggs, his daughter Laura VanEpps, and her husband, Ryan VanEpps, and their children James and Harrison VanEpps.
State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in Chenango County, all businesses were in compliance; NONE of the locations checked sold alcohol to a person under the age of 21. 13 businesses were checked in Norwich & Sherburne, During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth, if asked.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 47 year old Michelle Brown for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Harassment. Deputies responded to New Berlin for a reported dispute, Brown allegedly subjected a juvenile victim to unwanted physical contact. Brown was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

Governor Hochul signed an executive order establishing a statewide moratorium on the permitting and construction of large new data centers. The freeze will temporarily stop massive, facilities for up to a year while the state develops updated environmental, energy, and community standards. The ban applies to new data center facilities that require 50 Mega Watts or more of energy. however smaller data centers used by hospitals, universities, and financial back-office services are exempt.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is expanding and enhancing communication abilities with crime victims and community members with new technology that provides text updates to community members calling 911. Following a call to 911 or the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line, callers using a mobile phone will receive an automated notification & incident number by text message, with updates related to the response, about the deputy being dispatched and access to helpful resources, callers will also be able to check the status of their cases at sheriffconnect.broomecountyny.gov.

An Open House is being held today in Norwich regarding the 5 Court Street Construction project. The Open house will be held until 7:00 PM at the Board of Supervisors Chambers, county officials and engineers will be available to answer questions.
