Patrick Shea plead guilty to manslaughter and arson, he set a fire to keep warm inside a vacant structure at 1 Main Street in Binghamton on February 12, 2025, the fire led to the death of Binghamton Firefighter J.R. Gaudet, who died when the building collapsed on him. Shea is expected to serve 7 years in prison as part of a plea bargain arrangement.

The CDC recommends that people with moderately to severely compromised immune systems should receive an additional dose of a COVID-19 vaccine about 28 days after a 2nd dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. The additional dose of COVID-19 vaccine is recommended only for those being treated for solid tumors or malignancies, those who have had organ transplants, those receiving STEM cell transplants, those being treated with certain cortisone therapies, or those with Chenango County Public Health will host a 3rd dose Moderna Vaccine Clinic on September 1st, at the South Plaza in Norwich from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. The Chenango Blues Festival begins tonight in the Chenango County Fair Grounds in Norwich, the show is Free to all but unvaccinated individuals should wear a mask and social distance. Larsen said that the Main show will be at the Chenango County Fairgrounds Saturday, tickets will be only be available at chenangobluesfest.org/tickets.

The Chenango County Blues Association announced that the Chenango Blues fest is being scheduled for this summer.  The blues fest will begin on Thursday August 19th with a free concert at the East Side Park Stage, a lengthy line up of acts are also slated to perform Friday August 20th & Saturday August 21st at the Chenango County Fairgrounds, information will be updated at chenangobluesfest.org.

Norwich Theater Company is holding auditions for their summer production, “Something Rotten” in the Martin W. Kappel Theater, in Norwich tonight from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with call backs on Sunday at 2:00 PM.  More information is available at norwichtheatercompany.org or (888) 613-4496.

The Chenango County Farm Bureau announced that they have
teamed up with the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine & Health for a
presentation Monday in Norwich, regarding safety issues with farm equipment,
Farm Bureau President Bradd Vickers explains;

Norwich Fire House Monday at 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.

BOCES Superintendent Perry Dewey released the list of events that led to yesterday's evacuation of the Norwich BOCES campus. At 9:25 AM, a written threat was discovered by administration, at 9:35 The police were called & the building evacuation began. The Students were moved to the BOCES Support Services Building, Students with special needs or medical needs were released at approximately 10:40 AM, by 1:30 p.m. all students had been released. State Police cleared the Chenango Campus building by 1:00 p.m. and it was confirmed safe and staff returned to the building by 1:30 p.m. School will resume today, including scheduled regents exams.

State Police arrested 36 year old Joseph Burke of Lenox Dale, Massachusetts for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C. of .38%. Troopers who responded to a 3-car motor vehicle crash. After an investigation, troopers determined that Burke rear ended a vehicle which then caused that vehicle to strike the rear of a third vehicle. The operator of the second vehicle suffered neck and leg injuries and was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital. Burke was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Columbus Court on September 5th.
