State Police arrested 25 year old Hunter Lawrence of Auburn, New York, following an investigation into an inappropriate relationship with a minor. The investigation determined that Lawrence engaged in multiple sexual encounters with a victim under the age of 17 over an extended period of time. Lawrence is employed as a Deputy with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office. There are no allegations that the conduct occurred while he was on duty. Lawrence was charged with 4 counts of Rape, plus Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Lawrence was processed and transported to the Cortland County Jail for arraignment, The investigation remains ongoing.

The Chenango County Board of Supervisors signed an agreement with Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services or "CARS" of Ithaca, to comply with federal and state regulations, Chenango County Attorney Zachary Wentworth explains:

Wentworth said that in 2023 The State Legislature passed the law that requires individuals in a correctional facility be given their opioid use disorder drug of choice. Methadone is a pain management and opioid addiction treatment drug, that has been used for decades for fighting addiction.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 9.2% in January compared to the same month in 2022, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Every county experienced some year-over-year growth in January collections, with Delaware County seeing the largest increase at 26%, followed by Schenectady and Cayuga counties.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Department announced that an all-terrain vehicle accident in the Town of Walton early Friday afternoon has claimed the life of a Bronx teenager.   Deputies and Walton Fire & EMS, responded to Cayuga Trail Road in the Town of Walton, their preliminary investigation revealed that the 15-year-old victim lost control of the ATV, ran off the roadway & collided with a tree and was ejected from the vehicle.   The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, he was transported by LifeNet to UHS Delaware Valley Hospital where died of the injuries he sustained in the accident.

State Police located a missing hiker early this morning, close to 12 hours after the initial 911 call was made. 58 Year Old Yi Sun of Westfield New Jersey called 911 around 12:30 PM Sunday, seeking assistance and was unable to identify where she was.  Shortly after midnight, troopers on a roving patrol located Sun near the area of Routes 34/96 near Ithaca.  She was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment and her family was contacted.  State Police, State Park Police, DEC Forest Rangers, and other agencies assisted in the lengthy search.

The Ithaca Police Department is opening a homicide investigation after one of two Ithaca College students stabbed on the Cornell campus early Sunday morning, was pronounced dead at Cayuga Medical Center. 19-year-old Anthony Nazaire of Brooklyn was killed, a 2nd student was injured, and was treated and released from a Syracuse area hospital. The incident occurred at around 2:00 AM Sunday at the conclusion of a campus event, several altercations broke out as students left the hall, and police are looking at video recorded by witness on their phones.

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services awarded $1 million in funding to support 25 new treatment beds to provide care for New Yorkers with substance use disorders. The funding was awarded to Tompkins County addiction treatment services provider Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services for the creation of a new 25-bed adult residential treatment facility. The residential treatment facility in Trumansburg will offer a full spectrum of addiction treatment services to residents including counseling, life-skills training and after-discharge support.

Groom is white female, 5 foot 2, 130 pounds with blonde hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information should call 1-800-346-3543

A group of junior sailors from Camp Comstock were out on Cayuga Lake Wednesday when the winds picked up and waters became too rough.  A camp counselor attempted to rescue the three campers in a motor boat, but began taking water on board and the boat began to sink. Others from the camp went out in canoes and jet skis to try and bring them in. Trumansburg Fire and Rescue, along with the New York State Park Police Marine Unit and the Ithaca Fire and Rescue Marine Unit, responded to the scene and were able to rescue the boat operator.  Two campers were taken to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment of head injuries.  Officials said the use of life jackets helped make sure there was no loss of life.

State Police investigated a fatal head-on collision involving a Saturn and a tractor-trailer Saturday on State Route 13 in Dryden. 22-year-old Isaac Miller of Freeville was killed when his Saturn collided with the tractor-trailer driven by ALEXANDER SPAGNOLA of Tully. Spagnola was treated at Cayuga Medical Center for minor injuries and released. Investigators believe that Miller was intoxicated & drifted into the opposing lane and struck the tractor-trailer head-on. The accident is still under investigation.

NYSEG announced that delivery charges are being increased to cover the cost of operating the Cayuga Generating Facility until other sources of power are found.  The company operating the plant had planned to shut it down in January, but an agreement with NYSEG and regulators will keep it running for another year.  Residential customers will pay $1.11 more per month, a small businesses could spend up to $29 more, large nonresidential customers with large demand could pay up to $1,680 more.

State Police investigated a fatal motor vehicle collision, which occurred on Sunday afternoon on State Route 366 in the Town of Dryden.   Troopers reported that 20-year-old Victoria Howell of Groton lost control of her vehicle and entered the eastbound lane, striking a vehicle operated by 48-year-old James Caywood of Elmira.    Ms. Howell was transported to Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca where she died from her injuries,  Caywood was not injured in the collision.  No charges have been filed.
