Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Casey Smith of the Town of Butternuts for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, after deputies responded to assist State Parole Officers with a home visit where Smith is accused of possessing a large amount of narcotics, he was arraigned in Otsego County Centralized Arraignment and released on his own recognizance, he was then sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on a parole warrant. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Butternuts Court at a later date.

54 year old Casey Callahan accepted a plea deal in Otsego County Court Monday, in connection the murder of his wife Elizabeth in Pennsylvania in 2000, by running her over with his truck. Callahan was due for a retrial, he was previously convicted of murdering his wife, the original guilty plea was overturned last year, By accepting the plea, Callahan avoids a 2nd trial. The case was tried in Otsego County originally as prosecutors said that Callahan hatched the scheme to murder his wife while living in the County, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and he will serve a jail sentence of 4 to 12 years.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies recently observed a vehicle with a brake light out, Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 56-year-old Gladys Smith of Delhi. A routine driver’s license inquiry revealed that Smith’s New York State driving privileges were suspended for failure to answer previous traffic summonses in the Town of Davenport and Town of Liberty Courts. Smith was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle & having a defective brake light. Smith was directed to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on a later date to answer the charges.

State Police arrested 3 local residents for 2nd degree Burglary that occurred October 15, 2017 at a home on State Route 206 in the town of Masonville. Rifles, tools and boxes of ammunition were taken, Investigators arrested 37 year old Jarred Cutting of Masonville in January, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. On Feburary 1, 30 year old Andrew Baker of Bainbridge, was arrested for Resisting Arrest & burglary, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. Investigators later learned Casey Smith was incarcerated in the Otsego County Jail on unrelated charges. Smith was arrested by Investigators last week, & was arraigned and was returned to the Otsego County Jail.

State police arrested 32 year old Christopher Byrne and we year old Casey Jones of Coventry, for reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawfully growing cannabis, and possession of controlled substance outside its container. The arrests followed an investigation in the drug overdose of a 20-month-old child in Coventry; the child was initially treated at Wilson Memorial hospital in Johnson City & was transferred to Upstate Medical center in Syracuse. Byrne & Jones were arraigned in Coventry town court and were remanded to the Chenango county jail pending future court action; the child has been treated & released.
State police arrested 21 year old Samantha Smith of Oneonta for criminal impersonation & failure to have an interlock device, plus unlawful possession Marijuana, following a traffic stop for a defective tail light on state route 7 in Oneonta. Police accuse Smith of giving a false name to the trooper, the check of her identity showed that she was restricted to diving only vehicles with an interlock device due to a previous DWI arrest, she was also found to possess Marijuana. Smith faces court action in Oneonta court September 9th.
