Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 53 year old Donald Lane of Portlandville for being in violation of the State Sex Offender Registry. Lane was charged with Sex Offender Failure to Update Change of Address, following an investigation that revealed that Lane relocated away from his residence in excess of the 10 day grace period required for sex offenders to update an address change. Lane was located by the Canajoharie Police Department and was turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on an unrelated matter. On March 11th 2024, the defendant was formally charged with the above charges and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

13 people were rescued from a ravine after floodwaters trapped hikers, swimmers and picnickers along the Canajoharie Creek last night. Rescuers from State Police, local Fire Agencies, responded, and there were no injuries reported. Rescuers had to use various equipment and ropes to pull some of the people up a 120-foot-high cliff in the gorge; the operation took about 8 hours to complete.

State Police & State DOT officials are reminding motorists of the state's "Move Over" law, after a tow truck driver was killed early this morning by a tractor-trailer, while assisting a motorist with a disabled vehicle. The accident occurred near exit 29 of the Thruway near Canajoharie, the investigation is continuing.

Montgomery County officials reported that the body of 87-year-old Ethel Healey has been recovered from the Mohawk River last night, after she was swept away in her mobile home in floodwaters Friday.  Healey's body was found in storm debris at Canajoharie, about 3 miles from Fort Plain, this is the only death so far attributed to the recent storms.
