The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a scam currently circulating, as Several county residents have reported receiving phone calls claiming they have an active warrant for their arrest and are instructed to pay a sum of money to have the matter “cleared up.” This is a scam, as the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office will never contact individuals by phone to demand payment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-year-old Daniel Roe of Davenport, who is accused of subjecting a juvenile to sexual contact in May 2024. Roe was also alleged to have subjected another juvenile to inappropriate sexual conversations during the same time frame. Investigators arrested Roe on 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 1 count of Forcible Touching, 1 count of Sexual Abuse, Roe was arraigned & Orders of Protection were issued for the victims. Roe was later released on his own recognizance and was directed to appear at the Town of Davenport Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Shane Tweedie of Walton following an investigation into a stolen vehicle complaint reported in the Town of Bovina and was later located in the Village of Walton. Tweedie was located by deputies in the Village of Walton and he was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Grand Larceny, Burglary, Criminal Contempt & Criminal Trespass, Tweedie was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment Court.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 19 year old Dayton Carney of Pittsfield, for Assault & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following an investigation into an assault complaint in the Town of Milford. Carney was arrested and processed & was turned over to Corrections Staff to await arraignment, he will appear in the Milford Town Court at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul unveiled proposals to strengthen New York’s gun laws by cracking down on 3D-printed and illegal firearms. The new legislation would establish criminal penalties for the manufacture of 3D-printed firearms and order minimum safety standards for 3D printer manufacturers to block the production of firearms and firearm components. The legislation would also require gun manufacturers to design their pistols so they cannot be modified into illegal machine guns, and require police departments and sheriffsoffices to report recoveries of all 3D printed guns to the state.
A former Broome-Tioga BOCES employee is facing charges after an investigation into inappropriate conduct with a BOCES student. On November 12, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office received a referral from the New York State Child Abuse Hotline regarding inappropriate conduct between a juvenile student and a member of the Broome-Tioga BOCES faculty. 51 year old Evan Thorson of Endicott was charged with Child Endangerment and Official Misconduct, a warrant & an Order of Protection was issued by the Town of Dickinson Court. Thorson turned himself in and was processed on Monday. Thorson was no longer employed by BroomeTioga BOCES.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has been officially awarded Civil Re-accreditation by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association for the period commencing October 2025, through October 2030. Sheriff DuMond told WCDO news what this means:

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Ross Guglielmetti of Deposit,on a number of charges, following a pursuit through Broome, Chenango & Otsego Counties. Guglielmetti was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Reckless Endangerment & resisting arrested, he face court action at a later date.
The New York State Department of Health has sent out an alert, warning New Yorkers or a new scam. Health department officials stated that Telephone scammers are mimicking the Department, some New Yorkers have been receiving phone calls from people identifying themselves as a Department of Health Employee, they will ask for information about a controlled substance prescription, adding to the confusion, the caller ID may even say the caller is from the Department of Health. Officials said that the Health Department will not make such calls to private citizens, they advise people who receive these calls to hang up & alert local law enforcement.

The City of Norwich Police Department arrested 51 year old Delf King of Norwich for 2nd & 4rd Degree Robbery, plus criminal mischief & Grand larceny, following an investigation of a robbery in the City on April 6th. King is accused of attacking a victim on East Main Street, causing multiple bleeding injuries, & forcibly stole the victim's cell phone, and smashed it, he then retreated to his residence, retrieved a firearm, and pointed it at the victim. King appeared in Chenango County Arraignment Court where bail was set at $5,000 cash, He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility and will appear in City of Norwich Court at a later date.

Norwich Police arrested 59 year old Richard Clemons of Norwich on numerous counts of Rape, promoting a sexual performance by a child, possessing a sexual performance by a child, forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child, Tampering with physical evidence & sexual abuse. Norwich police & the Chenango County Child advocacy Center received information of a an adult performing sexual activities with a 13 year old juvenile, Clemons was taken into custody, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail pending future court action.

60 year old Ann Affolder of Binghamton, was arrested after she struck multiple trick-or-treaters with her vehicle on Halloween in the Town of Chenango on South Morningside Drive. Deputies & 1st responders found the vehicle with an adult male still trapped underneath, 1st responders were able to successfully extricate the victim, 4 victims were injured, 3 were transported to Wilson Hospital. The investigation revealed that Affolder was backing out of a driveway when the vehicle accelerated onto the street and struck 4 people, Affolder was charged with Vehicular Assault, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, & Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance for Methamphetamines, she was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail.
State Troopers responded last Tuesday to State Highway 28 near County Highway 6 in the town of Middletown for a 2-vehicle crash. An investigation determined that an SUV driven by 36 year old Natasha Reed of Delhi crossed into on-coming traffic, into the path of an SUV driven by 57 year old Ernest Bilzer of Fleischmanns. Reed was pronounced deceased at Margaretville Hospital, Bilzer was transported to O’Connor Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is on-going.
Delaware County Sheriffs Office arrested 43 year old James Clark of Stamford for Promoting Prison Contraband, Last Week members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division investigated a report from Corrections personnel in which an incarcerated individual was found to be in possession of medication that he had diverted.  Clark was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband, Clark was later arraigned, where bail was set at $1,000 cash and $2,000 bond on the new charge. Clark was then remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Jail on the original charges.

The New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, 3rd Judicial Department, has ordered a hearing on Gordon Mower Jr.'s motion to vacate his murder conviction, claiming that he received ineffective counsel when he was found guilty of killing his parents in 1996. The court found sufficient grounds to warrant a hearing on Mower's claims, the decision reverses a previous denial by the Otsego County Court. Mower was convicted of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life without parole.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Michael Fletcher & 36 year old Michelle Bremner, both of Westford, for numerous counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, plus Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia & False Personation following an investigation originating from a request for a welfare check on 3 children at a residence in the Town of Westford. Deputies located the defendants inside the residence, they provided false information in an attempt to hide their true identities as they were wanted on multiple active warrants, multiple items of drug paraphernalia were in plain view, and the Otsego County Child Protective Services were contacted for the children. Fletcher & Bremner were processed, arraigned & were remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await further court proceedings. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.
40 year old Jorge Cortina of Binghamton was sentenced to 8 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 3 to 6 years in State Prison for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and 364 days in the Broome County Jail for Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, with the sentences to run concurrently. Cortina was stopped in September 2024 in a motor vehicle in Binghamton by members of the Broome County Sheriffs Strategic Response Group, he was found to possess methamphetamine, a pistol, and a digital scale to weigh narcotics, he was found guilty of the charges in July in Broome County Court.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an address in Walton to execute a bench warrant issued for 47 year old Luke Lupo, for his failure to appear in Court, 3 individuals were present, Lupo, 43-year-old John Whiteside Jr, and 45-year-old Melissa Knorr. Whiteside had active charges with Colchester Police for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Deputies observed drug paraphernalia, they applied for & received a search warrant, they uncovered Methamphetamine. Lupo, Whiteside, and Knorr were arrested, and were charged with 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Lupo was transported to the Delaware County Jail and held pending his arraignment, Whiteside was turned over to Colchester Police, he was held pending arraignment, Knorr was released on an appearance ticket.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bryce Bauder of Norwich, following an investigation into a domestic dispute that occurred on October 19, in Norwich. Bauder was involved in a domestic dispute with a victim who had an active full stay-away order of protection against him. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Norwich Police Department located Bauder at his residence, where he was taken into custody without incident and was charged with 2 Counts of Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Family Offense, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment & Burglary, he was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $30,000 cash bail.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 Sherburne residents on multiple drug-related charges Friday in Sherburne. Deputies observed Jessica Baum, who was known to have an active warrant inside a vehicle, with Jason Wheeler, a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine, packaging materials, and digital scales. Baum and Wheeler were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia & Conspiracy, they were arraigned, Baum was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Sherburne Village Court at a later date. Wheeler was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail and is also scheduled to appear in Sherburne Village Court at a later date.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for January 2025. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in January, locally, Chenango County had 4.4% unemployment, Delaware County 4.9% & Otsego County 5.3%.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that Applications are being accepted through April 1st for their annual summer camp for children from ages 9 through 12, for the weeks of June 29-July 5 and August 3-9. Children from economically challenged families and those who can benefit from positive interaction with deputy sheriffs should apply, Camp occurs at Keuka Lake in Penn Yan. The State DOT Reminds motorists that starting today, culvert work will begin on State Route 17 westbound in the Town of Sanford. Drivers should follow the posted detour using Exit 83, left onto Broome County Route 28 west for half a mile, then left back onto SR 17. Access for oversized vehicles will be restricted throughout the closure, which is expected to last 2 weeks.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old John Crotts of Oneonta following a motor vehicle accident last week. Crotts was charged with Driving while intoxicated, Driving while ability impaired by drugs, Criminal possession of a controlled substance & Miscellaneous Traffic Citations, The investigation revealed that Crotts had been operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs he was arrested and later released after the issuance of appearance tickets for Town of Oneonta court at a later date.
Starting January 1st, the minimum wage will go up 50 cents, followed by another 50-cent increase starting January 1, 2026. The minimum wage will be set at $17 in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County and the rest of the state will be set at $16. 30 year old Joshua Mazyck of Endicott, pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and will serve 6 years in New York State Prison followed by 5 years post release supervision as a second felony in Broome County Court. On June 5, after a traffic stop and subsequent investigation by State Police, Mazyck was found to be in possession of fentanyl, packaging materials, a loaded handgun, cutting agents, and a digital scale.
New York Farm Bureau attracted a record-breaking 400-plus attendees and nearly 70 sponsors to its State Annual Convention in Verona last week. State Police issued a total of 24,191 tickets statewide during this year’s special Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period, from Saturday, November 23, through Sunday, December 1st. Troopers arrested 251 people for DWI and investigated 1,259 crashes, including three fatal crashes. In the Southern Tier there were 1146 total tickets issued.
Otsego County Sheriffs arrested 47-year-old Timothy Stone of Cooperstown Friday, based on a report of physical child abuse at a residence in the Town of Middlefield. Further investigation revealed that Stone was involved in a domestic dispute with a pregnant juvenile, allegedly placing the juvenile in a choke-hold before throwing the victim on the floor, causing unknown injuries. Stone was located by Oneida County Sheriffs and taken into custody without further incident. Stone was charged with 3rd-degree Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, an order of protection has been requested on behalf of the victim.
State Police were dispatched Thursday by the Delaware County 911 Center to an assault on County Route 17 in the town of Hancock. 40 year old Nelson Lopez of Roscoe, violated an order of protection and caused physical injury to Julianna Stowers-Lopez of Roscoe, who also caused serious injury to Lopez by stabbing him in the upper body. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by separate ambulances to Wilson Medical Center. Both were released from the hospital Friday, Lopez was charged Criminal Contempt & 2nd degree Assault, Stowers-Lopez was charged with 1st degree Assault, Both were transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.
27 year old Martha Clemons of Oxford was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief, Harassment and Resisting Arrest. Deputies responded to a domestic dispute, Clemens is accused of unlawfully and forcefully entering a residence and stole the victim’s dog, struck the victim, refused to comply with Deputies orders to come out of the residence. An arrest warrant was then signed, And Clemens was taken into custody, & was arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court and released on her own recognizance. Clemens is to appear in the Town of Oxford Court at a later date.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that Michael Gibson of Endicott has been sentenced for rape in the first degree, he will serve 17 years in prison for the crime, followed by 15 years of post-release supervision. Gibson admitted to performing sexual acts with a victim who was under the age of 13 in Summer 2023, the office said. He pleaded guilty to the crime in February.
Delaware County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigations Division received a complaint in April from Delaware County Probation Department that a person supervised by the Probation Department was suspected of communicating with underage children in a sexual manner. On July 3rd, the Division arrested and charged 27-year-old Dylan Brooks, of Hancock for 1 count of Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, and 1 count of Endangering the Welfare of Child, Brooks is alleged to have violated his terms and conditions of probation by using an unauthorized phone and social media account to engage in conversations of a sexual nature with a 16-year-old child, proceeding to then send photos of a pornographic nature to the underage child. Brooks was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.
State Police & The State Office of Cannabis Management has continued to execute search warrants on businesses suspected of illegally selling Marijuana without possessing a license to do so. Sidney Exotics at 30 Main Street in Sidney was closed down Monday, more details are expected to be released shortly.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Christopher Fuller of Oxford on July 3rd, after a Deputy in Norwich observed Fuller driving a pick-up truck & knew he did not have a valid license. The Deputy observed Fuller driving in a reckless manner and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Fuller failed to comply & the pursuit continued until Fuller's truck became disabled, he attempted to flee on foot, and he was taken into custody. Fuller was charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawfully fleeing a Police officer & numerous other related charges, he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on cash bail.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group arrested 59 year old Kenneth Jordan of Endicott On Saturday. During a traffic stop in Binghamton, deputies observed a knotted plastic bag hanging out of his pocket, Jordan to be in the possession of fentanyl, cocaine, plus cash from suspected drug sales. Jordan was charged with Criminal Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, speeding and several other related charges, Jordan was arraigned and released after being issued appearance tickets returnable to the City of Binghamton Court.

State Police at Sidney arrested 61 year old Duane Gardepe of Masonville, after a domestic dispute at a residence on Axtell Road in the town of Masonville. Gardepe has been charged with 1st degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act, Kidnapping, Sexual Abuse, Aggravated Sexual Abuse, Unlawful Imprisonment, Menacing & Criminal Mischief, An investigation revealed that Gardepe menaced and threatened a victim, prevented the victim from leaving, calling 911 and forced unwanted sexual acts. Gardepe was processed and arraigned, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.
State Police arrested 22 year old Zachary Hoffman Kowatch, of Arkville for Reckless Endangerment as a Hate Crime, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. On May 9, Hoffman Kowatch was in a vehicle on Main Street in the village of Fleischmanns when he began yelling anti-semitic remarks at a teenager who was riding a bicycle, he attempted to intentionally strike the teenager and an adult with his vehicle while yelling obscenities and making anti-Semitic remarks before fleeing the scene. Hoffman Kowatch was located at his residence in Arkville and arrested, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on no bail.
Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 1.5% in April compared to the same month in 2023, according to data released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.76 billion, up $26.1 million from the same time last year. New York City's collections increased 3.9%, County and city collections in the rest of the state decreased -0.5%. 25 of 57 counties experienced year-over-year decreases.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested a Kirkwood man for 3 gas station robberies. The 1st Robbery was on May 9th, at the Speedway gas station on Route 7 in Sanitaria Springs, where a male with a black shirt wrapped around his hand, implying he had a weapon, and grabbed a cash register & fled the scene in a gray Ford F-150 pickup truck. The 2nd Robbery was at the Mirabito gas station on Old Route 17 in Windsor, Sheriff Deputies identified the suspect vehicle and potential suspect as 46 year old Clint Loomis of Kirkwood. On Friday, a 3rd Robbery occurred at a gas station in Greene, Loomis was located on Route 12 in the Town of Chenango, A Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Loomis resisted, a Taser was deployed but Loomis drove off, Tire deflation devices were set up, Loomis damaged his tires but continued to flee, eventually leaving the vehicle on foot, he was apprehended. Loomis was wanted on a warrant, & was charged with Robbery, Obstructing governmental administration, reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing Police, Resisting arrest & 26 traffic violations, he was being held for arraignment.
Governor Hochul announced the opening of the application period for $50 million in funding for law enforcement agencies across New York State. The funding will allow police departments and sheriffsoffices outside of New York City to purchase new technology and equipment to modernize their operations, More information is available at criminaljustice.ny.gov. Last year's efforts resulted in 378 Law Enforcement Agencies Outside New York City receiving funding for technology upgrades.

41 year old Patrick Ladd of Walton, was convicted in Delaware County Court for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, with intent to sell, Ladd appeared Monday for a conference on his pending indictment, he then pleaded guilty to the charge, he admitted that he possessed 2 grams of methamphetamine and 13 bags of heroin in Walton on December 17, 2023, he also admitted that he planned to sell those drugs. Judge Hubbard ordered Ladd to serve 4 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision. The defendant was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to begin serving his sentence.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Lori Devine & 45 year old Aaron Morgan of Sherburne for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, after an investigation into drug activity. Detectives accuse Devine and Morgan of selling Methamphetamine from their apartment in the Village of Sherburne. A search warrant was obtained & Methamphetamine, digital scales, packaging material, US currency, and other items were located & seized, Devine and Morgan were processed and were released on appearance tickets, they are due to appear in the Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies responded in December to an address in the Town of Franklin to assist the Delaware County Probation Office with a search of a residence. Deputies secured a quantity of drugs & paraphernalia from 43 year old Ryan Vandeusen of Franklin. Vandeusen was on Probation at the time of the possession, Vandeusen was charged with 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia, he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Franklin Town Court at a later date.
Scammers impersonating local banks and other financial institutions are contacting Broome County residents in an effort to obtain account numbers, PIN numbers and other personal information. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office has received several new reports from residents who received phone calls, where the victims are asked to verify their account numbers and PIN, then the scammers transfer funds out of the victim’s account. Residents are reminded to never give out personal financial information over the phone, those who receive scam calls are urged to contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at 607-778-1911.
On Sunday night, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car motor vehicle accident with entrapment on State Highway 357, in the town of Sidney. Deputies arrived on scene and observed that the vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to rollover, then coming to rest off of the roadway. Deputies made contact with the driver, 65-year-old Lawrence Peloso of Mount Upton. Deputies charged Peloso with DWI, driving with a BAC greater than 0.08%, Moving from lane unsafely, and Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, Peloso was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Sidney Court at a later date.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a multi-vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 12A in the Town of Chenango at about 8:10 AM this morning. Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrols received a report of a stolen Kia SUV in the Town of Chenango, a patrol recognized the stolen vehicle waiting at a stop light and initiated a traffic stop, the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver took off at a high rate of speed, running a red light, the deputy returned to his vehicle and began to initiate what would ultimately be a short pursuit, with the stolen Kia colliding with two other vehicles less than a mile from the site of the original traffic stop. The driver of 1 of the vehicles hit, sustained serious injuries and was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the stolen Kia was identified as a minor, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Wilson. The investigation is continuing.
40 year old Christopher Davis of Oneonta was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury Thursday, for Predatory Sexual Assault against a Child & Criminal Solicitation, Davis is alleged to have commanded, requested, or otherwise attempted to induce a third party to commit the felony crime of Criminal Sexual Act & repeatedly attempting to arrange for an adult mother to engage in sexual conduct with him and her minor daughters & attempting to cause an adult female to commit Sexual Abuse, and for planning with another adult to drug a female friend so that they could engage in sexual acts while that female was incapacitated. Davis was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment on Tuesday
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old John Sheldrick of Edmeston following an investigation into a menacing complaint. Sheldrick was charged with Criminal Possession of a weapon, Menacing, Criminal Mischief & Aggravated Harassment, he was found to be in possession of a weapon, menacing the victim, intentionally damage the property of another and harassment, Sheldrick was held at the Otsego County Sheriffs Office, pending court action.
Sidney Police Department received a complaint Thursday of a deceased dog found in a wooded area near Fox Street. Officers responded to the scene and located a female dog that is believed to be a Bull-mastiff. The dog is a fawn color with a black mask and appears to be less than a year old. The dog also appeared to have been extremely malnourished before its death. Evidence at the scene suggests the dog was placed at the location after its death. The Sidney Police Department is investigating this as an animal cruelty case and is asking anyone with any information to please contact the Sidney Police Department at 607 561-2301

Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident at a residence at 90 Circle Drive in the Town of Colesville, Upon the deputies’ arrival, 22 year old Robert Bertram of Port Crane, pulled into the driveway behind the patrol car, exited his vehicle and began yelling at other residents at the scene. After repeatedly ignoring both verbal commands and efforts by patrols to deescalate the situation, Bertram was arrested, he was intoxicated and fought with officers, While in custody, he refused all sobriety and chemical tests. He continued to act aggressively and erratically, repeatedly shouting, screaming, throwing shoes, he was charged with DWI, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, Harassment, Refusing to Take a Breath Test, & various traffic violations, he was arraigned at Central Arraignment and released on an appearance ticket to answer for his charges at the Town of Colesville Court later this month.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that 34 year-old Krystynne Bliss of Sidney is facing a charge of Promoting Prison Contraband, On January 19th, members of the Delaware County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigation Division received information that Bliss entered the Correctional Facility while in possession of with Schedule 3 controlled substance, Bliss was arraigned at the Delaware County Central Arraignment court and returned to the corrections facility on an earlier unrelated charge.
State Police at Troop C responded Monday Afternoon to assist the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department at a residence on Homer Avenue in the City of Cortland. Gunfire was exchanged inside the residence. A person inside the residence sustained injuries and was transported to Upstate Medical Center. No officers were injured during the incident. The investigation is ongoing, there is no danger to the public.

49-year-old Charles Bodie of Meredith & Edmeston pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child, in federal court in Syracuse. Bodie admitted that from December of 2021 through October of 2022, he exchanged sexually explicit text messages with his victim, & to engaging in sexual activity with the same victim, who was between 13 to 15 years old. Bodie faces 15 to 30 years in prison, between 5 years and life on supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000, as well as restitution to the victim. He will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison, sentencing is on Wednesday, May 15.

Craig Ross Jr. has been charged kidnapping, 4 counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, plus sexual abuse, assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Ross was arrested after he allegedly abducted 9 year old Charlotte Sena Spetember 30th at Moreau Lake State Park in Saratoga County. Ross was indicted on the charges Friday, he was initially charged with 1st degree kidnapping when he was arrested days after the girl was riding her bike & went missing during a day at the park with family. Ross was found in a camper where he was staying, police found Sena in a cabinet, Ross is accused of raping the girl over the 2 day period. Ross pleaded not guilty in Saratoga County Court Friday, he is beign held in jail without bail since his arrest.
State Police & The FBI arrested 43 year old Michael Hilliard of Horseheads November 11th, following an investigation into hazardous materials used for making bombs was found Hilliard's residence. On November 6th, a local Highway Department employee found a possible explosive, the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit and FBI responded and made the explosive safe. On November 11th Hilliard was apprehended and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the First Degree (B Felony). He was arraigned and remanded to the Chemung County Jail. On November 12th, State Police executed a search warrant at Hilliard’s residence, they located several suspicious hazardous materials inside the residence & the immediate surrounding the residence was evacuated. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 3 people last Wednesday in a major drug bust in Binghamton. arrested were 39-year-old Rayshawn Thompson, 38-year-old Derrick Brooks and 39-year-old Brandy Myers were charged with multiple felonies after the Task Force officers executed a search warrant at 24 Robinson Street. Officer seized a loaded handgun, fentanyl, Methamphetamine, cocaine, Suboxone Strips & $4,500 in suspected drug proceeds, packaging materials, all 3 were transported to the Binghamton Police Department, and were processed & were being held on various felony weapon & drug charges.
State Police arrested 31 year old Kevin Carter Jr. of Binghamton, for 3rd degree Robbery and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Troopers were dispatched to a reported robbery at Speedway in the town of Union. Troopers located Carter who was found to be in possession of metal knuckles. The investigation determined that Carter made a small purchase but when the register was open, he reached over the counter and forcefully took a sum of money, however, he left his wallet with his ID on the counter during the incident. Carter was transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

The Norwich Police Department is investigating a homicide. Around 6:30 pm. on Sunday, officers responded to 89 North Broad St. for a welfare check and missing person complaint. During an investigation, police found the body of 44-year-old Alisa Ann Martin in the residence. Norwich Police are working closely with the State Police and Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies received a Trespassing complaint in the Town of Davenport. The investigation revealed that 73 year old George Sydlar had called 911 3 times on July 6th and more than 20 times prior to report similar incidents which were all determined to be unfounded. Deputies arrested Sydlar for falsely reporting an incident, he was released on an appearance ticket to the Town of Davenport court at a later date.
NBT Bancorp announced that it has received regulatory approval to complete the proposed merger of Salisbury Bancorp. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Connecticut State Banking Department both approved the Merger, and NBT received an application waiver from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Deputies found & secured the animal & transported it to the Delaware Valley Humane Society. Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Nicholas Sorensen of Johnson City following a traffic stop in Binghamton. Sorensen was found to be driving without a license & was wanted on a warrant for a DWI in Pennsylvania. Sorensen fled the scene on foot through traffic, he was subdued by 2 taser cartridges. Sorensen was treated at the scene by EMT's, he was charged with Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Governmental Administration plus several traffic violations, he was taken to Central Arraignment and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility as a fugitive from justice to await extradition by the Monroe County, PA Sheriff’s Office to answer for his outstanding charges.
The Governor's office announced Friday that the The Richmondville fire was contained. The Incident Command Post closed Friday Night, State Forest Rangers will continue to patrol the region to ensure it stays contained and mop up hot spots. Trains are still required to travel between 10 to 15 miles per hour out of an abundance of caution to prevent sparking additional fires.

35-year-old Bruice Jeffrey of North Norwich was arrested by Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies Sunday after allegedly stealing more than $130,000 from an elderly person. The arrest followed an investigation into Jeffrey started by a claim from the Chenango County Social Services Department, he is accused of stealing from an elderly person's account for 7 years. Jeffrey was charged with 3 counts of grand larceny and petty larceny, he was released with an appearance ticket and is due back in court at a later date.

The Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 53 year old Robert Randolph of Endicott was sentenced after pleading guilty to felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled substance. Randolph was caught with large quantities of methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl when police raided his motel room in Endicott in August of 2021, he was on parole from a previous conviction for selling methamphetamine. Randolph was sentenced to 5 years in state prison followed by 2 years of post-release supervision.
59-year-old Norman O’Neil of Endwell died Friday after he fell through the ice when he and 1 other man were ice fishing in Tioga County. Tioga County Sheriff's Office and area EMT's & Firefighters responded, The sheriff’s office reported that the other man fell through the ice but pulled himself out but was unable to save O'Neill, First responders pulled O’Neil out, he was not responsive attempts to resuscitate O’Neil, he died from the injuries he sustained. The unidentified companion was taken to an area hospital & was treated and released.

State Police responded to a home on Patch Road in the Town of Chenango last February, where Gerhard entered a residence without permission, he was in possession of an illegal handgun & was arrested, at that time, Gerhard was on probation for illegal possession of a .38 caliber revolver. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the availability of up to $7.5 million for state-certified providers and other treatment programs to establish low threshold services to address opioid addiction. The funding will provide up to $500,000 for 15 programs statewide to offer low threshold services, certified treatment providers, clinics by the state Office of Mental Health, hospitals, and harm reduction programs are eligible to apply for the funding.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 66 year old Dzemil Mujanovic of Meredith for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Contempt. Deputies received information June 17th that Mujanovic was in possession of several long guns that he failed to surrender to Sheriffs Deputies as stipulated in a Family Court Order of protection. Deputies determined that Mujanovic was in possession 7 long guns, which were taken from his residence, he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Meredith Town Court at a later date.
Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak announced that 32 year old Kyle Finch of Binghamton, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison after failing to register as a sex offender for the second time. Finch failed to provide an address change to local law enforcement from 2019 through 2021, as required by state law, Finch was convicted in 2016, in Chenango County, of Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor, he was designated as a Level 2 Sex Offender.
Fireworks Over the Fairgrounds will be returning to the Chenango County Fairgrounds on July 4 after a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Organizer Terry Potter of Millennia Entertainment told WCDO News that they are happy to be getting this event going again:

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 24-year-old Sean Parkes of Oneonta on an active Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear in Court, following a Domestic Dispute Investigation. On June 24th, Deputies were dispatched to the Town of Davenport, to check the welfare of 2 individuals involved in an altercation, they arrested Parkes, he was transported to Oneonta Police Department for processing.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a 1 car property damage motor vehicle accident on Calhoun Hill Road in the Town of Andes. The Driver, 52-year-old Sasha Catus of Bronx, exhibited signs of impairment, he was charged with DWI, Driving With a BAC of .08% or greater, failure to keep right, operating a motor vehicle while on a mobile phone, and operating a vehicle without wearing a seat-belt. Catus was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Andes Court on a later date.

The Centers for Disease Control reports that 29 out of the 54 counties in New York State have a high number of COVID-19 cases. Counties in the "high" category on the CDC's COVID-19 tracker have more than 200 cases per 100,000 or have COVID-positive patients in more than 10% of hospital beds. The State Attorney General's office, County Sheriffs Offices and District Attorneys reported how much money law enforcement agencies have seized, following investigations into drug crime, Fraudulent business practices & other criminal activities. Of the 62 Counties in New York State, Broome County DA's office ranked 7th with seizures over $121,000.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal Motorcycle crash on Interstate 88 near the Port Crane exit in the Town of Fenton Sunday afternoon around 3:45 PM. 2 overturned motorcycles and 2 injured people were located by EMT"S & Deputies, 32-year-old Joshua Callahan of Halfmoon was found unresponsive and laying in the roadway and 40-year-old Radames Gonzalez of Plattsburgh, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Attempts were made to revive Callahan, but he was declared was eventually declared dead at the scene, Gonzalez was transported to Wilson Hospital.
Local government sales tax collections grew by 21.1%, or $901 million, in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year, according to a report released by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Broome County saw the highest County growth at 24.3%, Of the cities that impose their own sales tax, Norwich saw the biggest jump in the first quarter at 30.8%.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Alexander Rogers of the Town of Hartwick for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief, Conspiracy & Criminal Trespass for a series of forced entry burglaries at commercial businesses in March and April. On April 17th, at 2:30 AM, Deputies were dispatched to a report of a burglar alarm activation, the business had been broken in to and multiple automated teller machines were tampered with. Rogers was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are expected.

Chenango County Public Health released their latest COVID 19 statistics this morning.  They report that they are up to 223 total confirmed cases since March, there are 84 people in quarantine, 1 is hospitalized, there have been 7 deaths, 200 recoveries, & over 21,300 tests have been performed.
The Broome County Health Department announced that they were up to 1165 COVID 19 cases, with 75 deaths, 1009 recoveries, 536 are being monitored by the department. They have conducted over 35,700 tests.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Ridge McCollum of Whitney point following an investigation into the report of a car in a ditch in Windsor.  Deputies accuse McCollum of trying to ingest cocaine that was discovered by sheriff's deputies during their investigation.  McCollum was charged with tampering with physical evidence, DWI, Criminal Possession of a controlled substance & obstructing governmental administration, he faces court action at a later date.
The Otsego County Health Department announced that they will hold another free COVID 19 testing on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NOON at the former "Greenies" site on state route 7 in Otego, near the Unatego school campus.  This testing site is for people who are not sick but want to be tested by a nasal swab.  This is a drive up testing site. Individuals will be required to remain in their vehicle and wear a mask when pulling up to the testing tent.  This testing site is for Otsego County residents only who preregister by calling 547-4279.

State Police arrested 48 year old Robert Gregory of Oneonta for 3 counts of Forcible Touching, 3 counts of Sexual Abuse and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  An investigation was opened when the parents of two victims under the age of 17 contacted State Police, an investigation revealed that Gregory allegedly made inappropriate sexual comments and forcibly touched the intimate parts of 2 under aged victims. Gregory was virtually arraigned and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond.  The judge issued orders of protections to each of the victims.
Governor Cuomo issued an executive order that requires county boards of elections to be ready for the changes in voting in the November elections.  The executive order requires county boards of elections to Send a mailing outlining all deadlines for voters by Tuesday, September 8, Send staffing plans and needs to the State Board of Elections by September 20th so they can assist them in ensuring adequate coverage, make sure that boards are ready to count votes and reconcile affidavit and absentee ballots by 48 hours after elections & Provide an option for New Yorkers to vote absentee in village, town and special district elections.
Delaware County received no new positive test result for COVID-19 since Friday, 1 additional recovery has been reported. The known active cases in the County as of today is 3, all are recovering at home. To date there have been 101 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County, with 29 people now under mandatory quarantine, 6 people have died and 92 have fully recovered.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputy Kristy Botsford was released
from Wilson Hospital, after surviving a head on crash while on duty last Friday
in Vestal.  Botsford was struck head on
in her patrol vehicle, responding to a report of a driver going in the wrong
direction on State Route 17.  Botsford
suffered a broken Femur in her right leg & for a time was listed in
Critical condition, 34 year old Daniel Butash of Endicott is facing a number of
charges including DWI in connection with that incident.

Office are investigating the suspicious death of an 11 year old child in
Johnson City.  The deceased child was
located at an undisclosed address Saturday afternoon; counselors are on hand at
the Johnson City Elementary School to assist classmates of the 5th grader in

Police in Nicaragua were turning over Orlando Tercero to Judicial Authorities in Nicaragua, they may decide to send Tercero back to Broome County to face charges, in connection with the death of Haley Anderson at Tercero's Binghamton apartment last week. Both Tercero & Anderson were nursing students at Binghamton University & had dated for a short period of time last year. A Nineveh woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing checks from a family member and making purchases. 35-year old Jessica Schultz was arrested on Monday and charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument, and identity theft. The Broome County Sheriff's Office says Schultz allegedly stole personal checks from a family member taking 63-hundred dollars from their account. Schultz was already incarcerated at the Broome County Jail on other charges. She will be arraigned in the near future.
47 year old Kenneth Upton of Mount Vision was indicted on a varoety of drug counts, following an arrest by Oneonta Police for allegedly selling heroin in 2016. Upton was being held in the Otsego County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond pending future court action.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 47 year old Hector Lopez of Monroe, for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle by an Unlicensed Driver, and insufficient tail lights, after a traffic stop on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden. Lopez is scheduled to return to the Town of Hamden Court at a later date.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 43 year old Jason Wright of Oneonta, for Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Public Lewdness. Troopers responded to a report of a naked man exposing himself from an apartment on Chestnut Street, Wright is accused of exposing himself in a lewd manner while standing near a window, he was also found to unlawfully possess a handgun inside the apartment. Wright was arraigned in the Town of Oneonta Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond.
State Police arrested 28 year old Jonathan Holt of Brooksville, Maine for Criminal Possession of Marihuana and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Troopers conducted a traffic stop of a 2005 Honda CRV, which was observed speeding on I-88 in the Town of Milford. The vehicle was searched after troopers detected the odor of Marijuana, with a passenger, Holt allegedly possessing over one pound of marihuana, plus hashish and hallucinogenic mushrooms. Holt was arraigned in the Town of Milford Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 property bond.

Wilson was observed traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Colchester at a high rate of speed where he was stopped, Deputies determined that Wilson was driving with 13 active suspensions, he was arraigned in the Town of Colchester Court, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $750 cash bail or $2,500 secured bond.
Governor Cuomo announced more than $3.7 million in grants to help further reduce motor vehicle theft and insurance fraud.. Police departments, sheriffs' offices and district attorneys' offices will share the funding for anti-theft and anti-fraud training programs to law enforcement professionals. The grants are awarded by the state's Motor Vehicle Theft and Insurance Fraud Prevention program, the state Division of Criminal Justice Services provides staff to the board and administers the grant program.

Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell announced that 27-year-old Aizaz Siddiqui of Binghamton pleaded guilty in City of Binghamton Court Friday to leaving the scene of an accident, in connection with the December 3rd 2016 death of Binghamton University student Stefani Lineva. Siddiqui hit Lineva on State Route 434 in Binghamton, she was pronounced dead at Wilson Hospital. Siddiqui will be sentenced on August 4th.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Sidney Central School Special Education teacher following an investigation by Deputies, State Police, and Sidney Central School administrators. Deputies arrested 48-year-old James Lewis, Jr. of Otego, for 2 counts of Forcible Touching and 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Lewis is accused of inappropriately touching 2 male special education students in the school on different occasions during the last week of April. Lewis surrendered to Deputies on Wednesday afternoon; he was arraigned in the Village of Sidney Court where he was released on recognizance pending further court action.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52-year-old Vincent Beadle of Norwich for harassment and criminal mischief, following the report of a domestic dispute in the Town of Norwich. Beadle allegedly subjected the female victim to physical contact and prevented her from calling 911. Beadle was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and released on his own recognizance, pending court action in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
51-year-old James Starnes of Binghamton will serve 30 years to life in prison for sexually abusing 3 girls. Starnes sexually abused the 9, 12 and 14 year old girls since 2013, he was convicted in March in Broome County Court felony predatory sexual assault, criminal sexual assault, rape, sexual abuse and course of sexual conduct against a child.
The Chenango County Sheriffs department participated in the April 28th National Drug Take Back event. The Sheriff’s Office recovered approximately 150 pounds of prescription medication at drop off locations in New Berlin, Guilford, as well as the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Residents may continue to turn in their prescription medication at the Sheriff’s Office Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm.

28-year-old Adam Alexander of Afton pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to 2nd degree manslaughter & driving a vehicle with a BAC higher than .08, in connection with the death of 36-year-old Jason Smith in the town of Colesville last September 5th. Alexander’s vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of state routes 235 & 7; he collided with Smith’s Motorcycle. Alexander faces sentencing on June 22nd.

The Governor stated that over 4 years New York State would lose $4.6 billion and lose at least $2.4 billion a year by fiscal year 2020. The Collins-Faso amendment would stop the counties from paying a share of Medicaid, which would cost upstate counties is 2.3 Billion Dollars.

State Police located wanted subject Troy Maloney of Hampton, New Hampshire operating a motor vehicle on Interstate 88 in the Town of Colesville. Maloney was wanted by the State of Massachusetts for Arson to a Dwelling, Troopers stopped the vehicle Maloney was traveling in and arrested him without incident. Maloney was arraigned as a Fugitive From Justice in Town of Colesville Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail in lieu of bail pending an extradition hearing.
The Arc Otsego, in partnership with the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities is holding a free Front Door Information Session from 4:00 to 6:00 PM today for individuals and families regarding access to services through OPWDD.
