The Unadilla Food Pantry is located at 172 Main Street in Unadilla, also the Mobile Food Pantry sets up at the corner of State Route 7 and 8 on the 1st & 3rd Fridays of each month, starting at 1:00 PM, they will be there this Friday for those in need.

State Police are investigating an incident in which a marked State Police patrol vehicle was reported stolen in the early morning hours TODAY. Troopers from the Oneonta Barracks were notified that a local repair shop had been burglarized overnight, and a State Police vehicle that had been undergoing service at the location was taken, The vehicle was later located and recovered in Rensselaer County, A person found inside the vehicle was taken into custody and is currently being interviewed by investigators. The investigation remains ongoing.

40 year old David Tyner pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court, in exchange for a sentence of 5 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. On July 31, 2024, in Binghamton, Tyner was found in possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell, the discovery occurred after Tyner was stopped by Binghamton Police for violating Traffic Laws while operating a motorized bicycle.

Initial results are in for yesterday's elections, in The Town of Sidney Eric Wilson wins re-election for Town Supervisor, the 2 seats on the Sidney Town Board, go to Andrew Hinkley & Frank Selleck. The Sidney Town Justice winner is Jennifer Ruling. In Area Town Supervisor races, in Guilford Gilda Ward is the winner, in Unadilla George Denys wins easily, in the town of Colchester, the winner is Robert Hafele, in the town of Oneonta, the winner is William Rivera Jr.. The Cities of Norwich and Oneonta will have new Mayors, Robert Jeffery will be Norwich’s next mayor, in Oneonta the winner is Dan Butterman. In the race for Delaware County Treasurer, the winner is Carli Pinner.

State Police were dispatched to a report of a vehicle in a pond near the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and Skinner Road in the town of Richfield Springs. A passerby called 911 after observing a portion of the vehicle, Troopers located the vehicle and discovered a deceased victim inside. A preliminary investigation determined that a 39-year-old female from Richfield Springs failed to stop at a stop sign at Cole Hill Road at the intersection and continued into the pond. Members of the Underwater Recovery Team assisted on scene. The investigation is continuing.

The New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, 3rd Judicial Department, has ordered a hearing on Gordon Mower Jr.'s motion to vacate his murder conviction, claiming that he received ineffective counsel when he was found guilty of killing his parents in 1996. The court found sufficient grounds to warrant a hearing on Mower's claims, the decision reverses a previous denial by the Otsego County Court. Mower was convicted of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life without parole.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Michael Fletcher & 36 year old Michelle Bremner, both of Westford, for numerous counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, plus Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia & False Personation following an investigation originating from a request for a welfare check on 3 children at a residence in the Town of Westford. Deputies located the defendants inside the residence, they provided false information in an attempt to hide their true identities as they were wanted on multiple active warrants, multiple items of drug paraphernalia were in plain view, and the Otsego County Child Protective Services were contacted for the children. Fletcher & Bremner were processed, arraigned & were remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await further court proceedings. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.

40 year old Jorge Cortina of Binghamton was sentenced to 8 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 3 to 6 years in State Prison for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and 364 days in the Broome County Jail for Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, with the sentences to run concurrently. Cortina was stopped in September 2024 in a motor vehicle in Binghamton by members of the Broome County Sheriffs Strategic Response Group, he was found to possess methamphetamine, a pistol, and a digital scale to weigh narcotics, he was found guilty of the charges in July in Broome County Court.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an address in Walton to execute a bench warrant issued for 47 year old Luke Lupo, for his failure to appear in Court, 3 individuals were present, Lupo, 43-year-old John Whiteside Jr, and 45-year-old Melissa Knorr. Whiteside had active charges with Colchester Police for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Deputies observed drug paraphernalia, they applied for & received a search warrant, they uncovered Methamphetamine. Lupo, Whiteside, and Knorr were arrested, and were charged with 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Lupo was transported to the Delaware County Jail and held pending his arraignment, Whiteside was turned over to Colchester Police, he was held pending arraignment, Knorr was released on an appearance ticket.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bryce Bauder of Norwich, following an investigation into a domestic dispute that occurred on October 19, in Norwich. Bauder was involved in a domestic dispute with a victim who had an active full stay-away order of protection against him. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Norwich Police Department located Bauder at his residence, where he was taken into custody without incident and was charged with 2 Counts of Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Family Offense, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment & Burglary, he was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $30,000 cash bail.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 Sherburne residents on multiple drug-related charges Friday in Sherburne. Deputies observed Jessica Baum, who was known to have an active warrant inside a vehicle, with Jason Wheeler, a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine, packaging materials, and digital scales. Baum and Wheeler were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia & Conspiracy, they were arraigned, Baum was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Sherburne Village Court at a later date. Wheeler was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail and is also scheduled to appear in Sherburne Village Court at a later date.

State Police, State Senator Oberacker and Assemblyman Angelino will honor the memory of Trooper Jill Mattice, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, at 10:30 AM at State Police Oneonta barracks on Oneida Street, Oneonta. State Police will announce the dedication of a portion of State Route 23 as the “Trooper Jill Mattice Highway.” Following a brief ceremony, they will proceed to the memorial site in the Town of Morris for the unveiling of the new highway sign. Trooper Mattice lost her life on January 20, 2010, when her patrol vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 23 in the Town of Morris.

An Endicott man is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing 27 iPhones from a FedEx facility while working for the company. Last Friday the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to a larceny complaint at FedEx Freight East, at Industrial Park Drive in the Town of Kirkwood. Security at the facility advised that someone had been stealing from iPhones since April by sneaking them out of the facility in his coat pocket. After reviewing footage, 22 year old Leon Roberts of Endicott was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Roberts was arraigned at Central Arraignment Part and released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court.

On Monday Morning, the Colchester Town Police Department, the Downsville Fire Department and Emergency Squad, responded to a reported motorcycle accident on State Highway 30 & Delaware County Highway 7. The operator of the motorcycle, a 42-year-old female, left the roadway and struck a ditch, she was ejected, sustained serious injuries and was transported by LifeNet of New York to Albany Medical Center for advanced medical care.

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in 32 New York counties after severe thunderstorms resulted in 3 deaths and thousands of power outages across parts of the state, and due to the forecast of extreme heat expected to last through Wednesday. The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down early Sunday morning in Clark Mills, 3 people were killed from the Storms, The state of emergency exists in Broome, Chenango, Delaware & Otsego Counties locally.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen rental car, where the victim stated that he had rented an SUV from Enterprise, but it had been stolen by his girlfriend, Christine Turner, who took the vehicle to Rochester and would not be returning the rental. On Friday, the missing SUV was located in Binghamton, patrols attempted a traffic stop, but Turner failed to comply, she eventually stopped & was forcibly removed from the vehicle, and her passenger, Christina Yacalis, were both placed into custody. Turner was charged with Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration & Multiple traffic violations, Yacalis was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substances, both were arraigned and were released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Maine Court & City of Binghamton Court.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in Chenango County Thursday. All of the businesses checked were in compliance and did not sell alcohol to an underaged operative. Businesses that complied included area Mirabito Quickway stores, Stewarts Shops, Speedways & privately owned liquor stores in Norwich, & Sherburne. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.

The State DEC announced several proposed regulation changes to streamline use and reporting of hunting tags and provide new deer hunting opportunities. First, DEC proposes a process for using electronic carcass tags for deer, bear, and turkey. Second, DEC proposes to provide a replacement regular season deer tag to youth hunters who successfully use that tag during the Youth Big Game Hunt weekend. Finally, DEC also proposes to enhance the Deer Management Assistance Program by extending the permit renewal cycle from 3 years to 5 years, More information is available at the the DEC website.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for January 2025. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in January, locally, Chenango County had 4.4% unemployment, Delaware County 4.9% & Otsego County 5.3%.

Chobani is gifting $250,000 each to infrastructure projects in Central New York, including for the Unadilla Community Farm's buildout of a solar-powered commercial kitchen and classroom space in West Edmeston, the kitchen will turn fresh harvests into nutritious meals for those in need, will also double as a teaching space for the Unadilla Community Farm's Beginning Farmer Training Program. Food made on-site will be donated to regional food pantries.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that Applications are being accepted through April 1st for their annual summer camp for children from ages 9 through 12, for the weeks of June 29-July 5 and August 3-9. The State DOT Reminds motorists that starting today, culvert work will begin on State Route 17 westbound in the Town of Sanford. Drivers should follow the posted detour using Exit 83, left onto Broome County Route 28 west for half a mile, then left back onto SR 17. Access for oversized vehicles will be restricted throughout the closure, which is expected to last 2 weeks.

State Police are continuing with their St. Patrick’s Day special detail through tomorrow. Drivers can still expect to encounter additional DWI patrols and a number of sobriety checkpoints, State Police will also be ticketing distracted drivers who are using handheld electronic devices and will also conduct underage drinking and unlawful sales to minors details during the campaign. Last year, Troopers arrested 132 people for DWI, issued 124 tickets for distracted driving and 5,576 tickets in total.

Tomorrow is Election day for villages across the state. In Sidney, 3 candidates, Vic Tartaglia, Pat Cristelli & Luther Higley are running for 2 seats on the board, Andrew Skrobanski is seeking re-election as village justice, he is unopposed. in Unadilla, there are 2 open seats for 2 year trustee positions, to find out about elections in your village, contact your local village clerk's office.

NYSEG is reporting that much of the power has been restored in the WCDO Listening area, Franklin still has the largest number of outages, with over 1300 earlier this afternoon, the Franklin school district was forced to cancel classes today due to the power outage.

The State DOT announced that beginning tomorrow, westbound State Route 17 in the Town of Sanford, will be closed for a culvert replacement, the project is expected to take about 2 weeks to complete. Drivers should follow the posted detour utilizing Exit 83, Broome County Route 28 westbound for half a mile, then left back onto State Route 17. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Jeremy Stafford of Walton for 3rd degree burglary & and other related charges, on Sunday, Delaware County Sheriff's office was notified by the Broome County Sheriff's office that they had Stafford in custody on unrelated charges. Stafford was turned over to Delaware County & was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending arraignment.

NYSEG reported that about 2400 customers are without power this morning in the Tri-County Region, following last nights' high winds & heavy rains. Crews will be out trying to restore power as soon as possible, the majority of the outages are in Delaware county, with more than 1400 out.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Scott Strain of Morris, for Dissemination of Indecent Material to Minors, Promoting a Sexual Performance of a Child and 3rd degree rape, following an investigation into a sex abuse complaint received from the New York State Child Abuse Hotline. Investigation revealed that Strain allegedly entered into a sexual relationship with a minor and did request and receive indecent material from the minor. A Search Warrant was executed Friday & Strain was taken in to custody. Strain was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.

Several Area Fire Departments responded to a Chimney Fire at 9 Ceperley Avenue in Oneonta early this morning. The Fire was reported shortly before 4:30 AM this morning, with fire on the 1st & 2nd floor, coming through the roof, mutual aid was received by the Oneonta Fire Department from West Oneonta, Worcester, Sidney, Franklin, Milford, Laurens & Otego, at about 5:30 AM, the Fire knocked down, the investigation into the cause of the fire in ongoing.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office added 2 new deputies following their graduation from the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy. Deputies Tanner Franklin and Michael Smith completed the Basic Police Academy program, followed by a six-week field training course, prior to last Friday's Ceremony.

56 year old Claude Manon of Margaretville, was sentenced to 6 months of incarceration to be followed by 5 years of probation supervision for Grand Larceny. Manon was accused of stealing over $3,000 in cash from a home he was doing work in on February 1, 2024, in the Town of Middletown, if Manon violates the terms of his probation, he faces one and a third to four years in State Prison.

Otsego County Officials announced that they have a State of Emergency due to current drought conditions adversely affecting the water supply in the county, which increases the risk of wildfires. Otsego County residents are prohibited from burning any combustible materials outside, and they are prohibited in engaging in any activities that could allow for flames or sparks that could result in a wildfire. The Emergency order is in effect until November 2nd.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Kyle Packer of Edmeston following an investigation of a violation of a Court Order of Protection. Packer was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree Burglary plus 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, where Packer is accused of entering the premises and violating a stay away order of protection, he was also found to have left 2 voicemails for the protected party, he was being held at the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar will be hosting a Public Safety Town Hall at 6:00 PM today for residents of Windsor and the surrounding communities. The Public Safety Town Hall will take place at the Village of Windsor Community House, Community members are invited to attend and hear the latest public safety updates, ask questions and discuss safety for residents and motorists.

The FBI statistics show that the number of people crossing the Southern border has decreased to more traditional levels of a million to 1.5 million a year, but the number entering through Canada has jumped from about 110,000 a few years ago, to almost 400,000 this year already. The bill is expected to be passed by a Senate Committee today & move forward to a possible full Senate vote.

This declaration allows for federal financial assistance to support public infrastructure reconstruction efforts in several Counties, including Broome & Delaware Counties locally. A Major Disaster Declaration secures financial assistance through FEMA, and provides funding to local governments for debris removal and repairs to buildings and infrastructure, including roads, bridges, water and wastewater treatment facilities, critical infrastructure sites, schools, parks and other facilities. Grants of up to $50,000 will be available to eligible homeowners in Delaware County locally.

State Police were dispatched Thursday night to a report of gunshots at Lantern Hill Mobile Home Park in Oneonta. An investigation revealed that a 40-year-old male of Oneonta, NY sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after a dispute involving several individuals, he was taken to A.O. Fox Hospital by a private vehicle and was later transported to Bassett Hospital for further care. The vehicle carrying the victim was hit by gunfire during the incident. 34 year old Ishmael Seabrook of Oneonta was charged with 2 counts of Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Reckless Endangerment, State Police were assisted by the Oneonta City Police Department, Seabrook was arraigned at the Otsego County Jail and was remanded without bail.

Bainbridge Guilford Superintendent Tim Ryan released a statement about an incident Friday evening as B-G was hosting a football game with Walton. During the game administration was notified that a student was overheard saying he had a gun at the game, law enforcement was notified, the student was located and was taken away from the game & Staff remained with the student until law enforcement arrived and took over the situation. Ryan stated that there was no fight at the game and there was no gun, there was no need to suspend or cancel the game or send everyone home. Law enforcement continued to meet with the student and his family, they left the premises and law enforcement officers remained at the game until the conclusion.

Broome County Sheriff Road Patrol deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident involving 2 vehicles Early Sunday morning on Morgan Road in the Town of Binghamton. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar identified the deceased as 29 year old Charles Burrell of Conklin, who was ejected from 1 of the vehicles, he said that the operators of the 2 vehicles were engaged in a continuing dispute over women & narcotics, they engaged in a road rage incident that ended with the fatality. 20 year old Cody Diffendorf of Kirkwood & 26 year old James MacDowall of Binghamton were each charged with 2nd degree manslaughter, both are in the custody of the Broome County Correctional facility pending future court action.

The Delaware County Planning Board announced that they plan to develop a Strategic Comprehensive Plan, to guide future growth, development, and preservation in the County. Fisher Associates will lead the planning process and public engagement efforts. Public Input Sessions will be today from 6:00 PM -8:00 PM at the Hobart Community Center & Tuesday, September 17 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Walton Fire Hall, on West Street. On Friday, June 14, 2024, Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol attempted a routine traffic stop in Binghamton, the driver failed to comply and accelerated at a high rate of speed as patrols pursued, through Binghamton, Dickinson and Johnson City, where the driver jumped out of the moving vehicle & fled on foot. The passenger, 52 year old James Baker of Binghamton was taken into custody, patrols located the driver, 54 year old Lance Rosler hiding in an apartment nearby and placed him into custody. Officers seized methamphetamines in Rosler’s backpack, he was charged with Reckless Endangerment, 3 counts of Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Hindering Prosecution, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Conspiracy & Over 50 traffic violations through 3 jurisdictions, Baker was charged with Conspiracy & Hindering Prosecution, he is accused of filming the chase & convincing Rosler to keep the chase going. Rosler and Baker were processed, Baker was released on appearance tickets and Rosler remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for May 2024. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% in May 2024. Locally Chenango County had 3.2% unemployment, Delaware County 3.9% & Otsego County 3.7%.

45 year old Kareem Young of Binghamton was found guilty of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia by a Jury last week in Broome County Court. On January 5th, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a narcotics search warrant at 25 North Street in Binghamton, Young possessed cocaine and implements of narcotics trafficking. Young faces sentencing on September 23rd, he is facing up to 15 years in State Prison

State Police will be holding a Child Passenger Car Safety Seat Check today & tomorrow, as State Law requires that all children must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle until they reach their 8th birthday. The Delaware County Department of Emergency Services announced that Deputies & 1st responders reported to a serious crash this morning on State route 28 between Delhi & Spring Valley Road. Officials ask that motorists try to avoid that area today for clean up & the accident reconstruction investigation, more details will be released when available.

State Police responded Saturday to the Tioughnioga River in the town of Lisle regarding a possible drowning. The investigation determined that an 11-year-old male from Marathon, was fishing with friends and decided to jump in the water to swim when he went under the water and didn't resurface due to the strong current. At 7:15 pm., the victim was located deceased in approximately eight feet-deep water by the Broome County Dive Team. There were no signs of foul play, and the scene was consistent with an accidental drowning.

The National Weather Service has rated a Saturday tornado in West Winfield as an EF-1, with winds in excess of 100 MPH. Investigators determined that the tornado began near the intersection of Meeting House Road and Marriot Road and moved east southeast ending east of New York State Route 51." Several Structures were damaged during the tornado, with a canoe ending up draped over power lines

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar released the results of the latest round of targeted crime response by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office in areas across Broome County as the agency prepares to activate a full-time Strategic Response Group. Over a 6-week period in March and April, members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office utilized statistical and crime-mapping data from the Southern Tier Crime Analysis Center in Binghamton to identify “hot spots”. The office reported 22 Narcotics Arrests, 13 Warrant Arrests, 40 Vehicle and Traffic Arrests & 234 Traffic Violations Issued (208 Traffic Stops Conducted)

Village of Sidney Police Department announced that the owner of the deceased Dog found near Fox Street last Thursday, has been identified and the investigation suggests that the dog had succumbed to a terminal illness. The investigation continues as the Department evaluates whether criminal charges are warranted.

Norwich Police Department concluded an investigation into the Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the City of Norwich, they arrested 29 year old Austin Hutchins of Norwich for Criminal Possession of a Narcotic with Intent to Sell & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On February 9th, Norwich Police Officers and Detectives took Hutchins into custody for an active Bench Warrant out of Oneida County, during this arrest, Norwich Officers located 7 bricks of heroin mixed with fentanyl, quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine, over one thousand dollars in cash, and drug paraphernalia. Hutchins was released on an Appearance ticket to appear at Norwich Court at a later date, and was turned back over to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office on his warrant.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Margaret Will of Windsor on an outstanding warrant and charged with Bail Jumping after failing to appear in court multiple times to answer for separate petty larceny charges in the Town of Windsor, she faces court action shortly.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 73-year-old Dennis Slater of Roxbury, after deputies responded to a Landlord/Tenant Complaint. Slater was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Trespass, & 1 count of Harassment of a Regulated Tenant, he is accused of intentionally entering his tenant's residence on multiple occasions without proper notice, Slater was processed and was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Joshua Hunt of Unadilla for failing to abide by the State Sex Offender Registry. Hunt was charged with Failure to Notify a Change of Address & Failure to Update Registry Photograph, as required by sex offenders. Hunt relocated from his residence in the Town of Unadilla and did not notify authorities or give an updated photo within the required time frame. An arrest warrant was issued & Hunt was located by State Police and turned over to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, he was arraigned and was released on his own recognizance.

Broome County Sheriff’s deputies responded Sunday to a report of a fight between two males with weapons at a Starbucks in the Town of Dickinson. Upon arrival, responding deputies found that the two men had been separated, 59 year old Daniel Ackley of Johnson City had been following a truck that he suspected was tailgating his wife earlier, as the other driver was placing an order at the drive-thru, Ackley pulled up beside and began yelling at the driver and threatened him with a hatchet, threatening decapitation, the other driver pulled to the front parking lot and exited his vehicle holding a hammer, Ackley struck the victim in the leg with his vehicle. The victim was then able to retreat inside while Ackley remained in the parking lot. Ackley was arrested without incident and charged with Menacing & Reckless Endangerment, he was processed and released on an appearance ticket to answer for his charges at the Town of Dickinson Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Jennifer Williams for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, following a disabled vehicle investigation. On February 20th, 2023, Deputies observed a vehicle with its hazards flashing On State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock. During the course of investigation drugs and drug paraphernalia were recovered. On August 10th, 2023, a Sealed Indictment Warrant was issued for Williams arrest for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, last week Fallsburg Police Department located Williams and took her into custody, she was returned to Delaware County where she was held in the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 43-year-old Misty Cintron, and 50-year-old Brandon Hendricks, both of Sidney, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Cintron was also charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, Hendricks was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon. On November 1st, the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division executed a search warrant at Division Street, Cintron and Hendricks were present, officers seized over $1,000 in cash from suspected proceeds from drug sales, and 254 wax envelopes containing Fentanyl. Following arraignment on November 2nd, Cintron was released to reappear at a later date, Hendricks is being held due to the weapons possession charge.

44 year old Andre Gilliam of Binghamton was arrested after a search warrant was executed on Tuesday. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force Tuesday executed a search warrant at 174 1/2 Castle Creek Road in the Town of Chenango, they seized Fentanyl, Scales and cutting agent used for the distribution of narcotics, plus $3,790 in cash from suspected drug sales. Gilliam was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 2 Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, he was transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for processing and to await arraignment at Central Arraignment.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old James Gay of North Norwich for Driving While Ability Impaired by drugs, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, following a traffic stop for an equipment violation in the Town of Norwich. During the investigation of the traffic stop, James was exhibiting signs of recent drug use and failed the field sobriety testing. While being taken into custody James was found with a small amount of Methamphetamine. James was processed and released on appearance Tickets to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

Oneonta Police Department Announced an update to their earlier investigation in the Spruce Street area on October 28th. Oneonta Officers were investigating a noise complaint, they heard what sounded like a shot from a firearm, they responded to the area with State Troopers & State University Police. The ongoing investigation revealed that there had been a conflict at a party with all involved ending up on Spruce Street, 1 male was said to have pulled something from his mid-section discharged it at close range at another male. No witnesses described seeing a handgun. Investigators do not believe that this was a functioning firearm, and that the suspect fled the area and is currently in New York City. The investigation is continuing, anyone with information is asked to call the Oneonta Police Department at (607) 432-1111.

John "JB" Bayne has announced his departure as the General Manager of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Team Officials said that Bayne will be replaced on an interim basis by Richard Tylicki, and the search for a new General Manager will begin immediately.

State Police announced today that they are embarking on a new recruitment campaign. Applications for the State Trooper Entrance Exam will open on October 23rd through March 4th of next year. The last day to take the Trooper Entrance Examination is March 17, 2024. During its most recent recruitment campaign which ended on October 1st, 12,691 individuals applied to take the exam, with a significant increase in applications within the 29 to 34-year-old age range, after Governor Hochul approved a request from the State Police to raise the maximum age to apply to 34, more information is available at joinstatepolice.ny.gov.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in New York State increased over the month by 7,500 to 8,261,800 in September. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 3.9% in August to 4.0% in September, the statewide labor force participation rate increased slightly to 61.6% in September 2023, matching its highest level in a decade.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that Pamela Fox is now in Custody. The Office announced Wednesday that there was an outstanding warrant for Fox's arrest for a Violation of Probation for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle. Fox was apprehended following a tip being forwarded to the Sheriff's Office.

State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested 44 year old Erin Walker of Union, for 3rd degree Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records. An investigation revealed that Walker embezzled approximately $12,000 from American Window Cleaning Company in the town of Fenton from 2016 to 2022. Walker was arrested and brought to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Central Arraignment.

The Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council will host a public open forum today to solicit feedback and priorities from the community, today at 5:30 at SUNY Delhi. The session will be led by Omar Sanders, who is the regional director of the Southern Tier Regional Council, he will be joined by representatives from River Street Planning and Development of Troy, they will focus on talent attraction and retention. State Comptroller's office conducted an audit of the South Kortright School District, the audit found that District officials generally ensured claims were adequately supported and properly audited prior to payment, certain purchases lacked necessary supporting documentation. There were issues with Request for Proposals for 7 professional service providers and the insurance provider & 18 claims were approved without documentation. The Auditors recommend that the claims auditor and deputy claims auditor Conduct a thorough and deliberate audit of each claim before authorizing payment.

State Police arrested 47 year old Jason Nugent of Vernon for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, after a trooper initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle speeding on State Highway 23 in the town of Plymouth. The trooper learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Utica, Nugent was arrested & was arraigned and is scheduled to appear in court on July 26th. Nugent was then turned over to New Hartford Police regarding another case.

State Police arrested 28 year old Benjamin Truitt of Marathon Tuesday for Grand Larceny. Truitt was arrested after an investigation of a report of a jet ski and trailer stolen in April from outside a residence in Marathon. Truitt allegedly hooked the trailer and jet ski to a vehicle and removed it from the property then putting it in the backyard of a residence on Front Street. The trailer and jet ski were ultimately returned to the owner. Troopers were another call Tuesday when they recognized Truitt, he was taken into custody, processed & was issued an appearance ticket to the town of Marathon Court on July 12th.

Republican Paul Battisti has won the primary in Broome County for the party nomination for District Attorney, over current DA Mike Korchak. Korchak announced that he would not run as a 3rd party candidate like he did tin the previous election 4 years ago & defeated republican Steve Cornwell. Former Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan announced that he will run on the Democratic Party Line for District Attorney in November.

Delaware County Board of Elections confirmed the Primary Election Results from Tuesday. In the Republican Primary for Distrit Attorney, Shawn Smith recevied 1,684 votes, while Joe Ermeti received 1,088, there were 2 write in votes.

24 year old Spencer Cummings of West Edmeston was arrested by Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies, for 2nd degree assault, Strangulation, Menacing & Unlawful Imprisonment following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Town of Norwich. Cummings is accused of assaulting and choking a female victim, he was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the custody of the Chenango County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division on $150,000 cash bail. Cummings is due back in the Town of Norwich Court on a later date.

Over the past 24 hours, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports from residents who received phone calls from individuals pretending to be detectives or deputies of the BCSO. Residents were informed that they had missed their court appearances and were threatened with warrants for arrest or thousands of dollars in fines, the scammer will request payment in the form of credit card information or other means. Residents are urged to terminate the call and not share any credit card information over the phone, Residents who receive scam calls are urged to contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at 607-778-1911.

The State Department of Health Bureau of Tobacco Control is releasing 3 new reports that point to the effectiveness of ongoing tobacco control policies adopted in the State over the last few years. The New York Youth Tobacco Survey of middle and high school students, found a decrease in cigarette smoking from 27.1% in 2000 to an all-time low of 2.1% among high school students. A 2nd report showed a decrease from 14.1% to 12.0% between 2017 and 2021. A 3rd report found that flavored vaping product sales and use decreased across the State following the implementation of a ban on flavored vaping products and new limits on the legal age to purchase other products.

The State Board of Elections has announced the release of Online Voter Registration website, which allows State residents to register to vote for the 1st time or update their voter registration, including their name, address or party affiliation. The website is located at elections.ny.gov/OnlineVoterReg. The next election will be the 2023 State and Local Primary which will be held on Tuesday, June 27. State Police at Sidney responded to a crash involving a tractor trailer and SUV on State Route 8 near County Road 35 in the town of Guilford. An investigation at the scene revealed that the SUV was on State Route 35 when the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a tractor trailer that had been traveling on State Route 8. The driver of the SUV, 27 year old Erin Hazen of South New Berlin was transported to A.O Fox Hospital - Tri Town. A passenger in the vehicle, a 3-year-old male was not injured. The driver of the tractor trailer, 51 year old Sergei Maliutin of Cohoes, did not report any injury.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 31 year old Derek Wignall of Hancock was sentenced to a split sentence of six months incarceration in the County Jail and a subsequent five-year period of felony probation supervision for the crime of Criminal Contempt. On July 12, 2022, Wignall violated an Order of Protection, & threatened to kill the victim, he was arrested by Troopers. On April 3, Wignall pleaded guilty to the charge.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 33 year old Christopher Snyder of West Winfield for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On Saturday afternoon, May 27th, 2023, Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton, at 75 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Snyder's driving privileges were suspended, he was arrested and was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, speeding and failing to surrender NYS License to DMV, Snyder released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

The State Legislature has passed the final State Budget Agreement for the 23-24-fiscal year. In the budget, an Agreement was reached To Provide Greater Discretion for Judges To Set Bail for the Most Serious Crimes; There were no Income Tax Increases in the Budget, additional funds were approved for mental health care, abortion access, Capital project at SUNY & CUNY Schools, increases in the education portion of the budget & increases in the Minimum Wage to $15 in the upstate counties over a 2 year period to adjust with inflation,

Local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $5.5 billion in the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 7.1%, compared to the same period last year, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. DiNapoli’s report found that sales tax collections increased by 9.2% in January and 14.1% in February, but the growth slowed to 0.3% in March. Collections for the counties and cities outside New York City grew by 3.3%, in the first quarter, with 50 out of 57 counties experienced sales tax increases during the quarter.

The Delaware County Board of Elections confirmed that, following yesterday's public hearing, a republican party primary will be held in the race for District Attorney. Joe Ermeti of Sidney will face acting District Attorney Shawn Smith in the primary on June 27th.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 48 year old Howard Knapp of Endicott will spend 50 years in prison after he was found guilty in January. Knapp was sentenced to 2 consecutive 25 to life sentences on 2 counts of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, the victims were under the age of 13 at the time the incidents occurred, in 2014 and 2015.

Walton Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire Monday at 34 Mead Street in the Village of Walton. A Walton Assistant Chief who was passing by and notified 911, of smoke showing & a woman on the 2nd floor attempting to escape, the assistant chief was able to assist her in exiting the home. Mutual aid was promptly dispatched from Trout Creek and Delhi Fire Departments & the FAST team from Franklin. 1 firefighters was injured inside & was safely removed, he was transported to DVH where he was further evaluated, treated and later released. The fire was under control in about 90 minutes, The 2nd and 3rd floors were deemed a total loss. The first floor suffered extensive heat, smoke and water damage

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a disabled vehicle on State Highway 28 in the Town of Franklin, 23 year old Devon Finch of Andes, had been operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated state, Deputies arrested and charged Finch with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Finch was released on an appearance ticket and directed to appear at the Town of Franklin Town Court at a later date.

The City of Oneonta announced that a safety concern on the exit ramp in the City’s Parking Garage located on Market Street, The ramp was immediately closed Monday and a structural engineer brought in , who advised that repairs to the ramp are required before it can be safely re-opened to vehicular traffic. The top level of the parking garage and the exit ramp will remain closed until those repairs can be made. Also, City officials announced that their contractor, R.B. Robinson Contracting, will begin construction for Gardner Place Street Reconstruction project on Wednesday, This project will continue thru the end of June 2023. Work includes replacement of sanitary and storm sewer mains, including new sewer laterals to residents and businesses, and full street reconstruction including some sidewalks and curbs followed by final restoration and stripping.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 66 year old Dzemil Mujanovic of Meredith for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Contempt. Deputies received information June 17th that Mujanovic was in possession of several long guns that he failed to surrender to Sheriffs Deputies as stipulated in a Family Court Order of protection. Deputies determined that Mujanovic was in possession 7 long guns, which were taken from his residence, he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Meredith Town Court at a later date.

Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak announced that 32 year old Kyle Finch of Binghamton, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison after failing to register as a sex offender for the second time. Finch failed to provide an address change to local law enforcement from 2019 through 2021, as required by state law, Finch was convicted in 2016, in Chenango County, of Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor, he was designated as a Level 2 Sex Offender.

State Police reported that an 18-month-old died after she was hit by an SUV in the driveway of her home in Schuyler Monday morning. After arriving at the scene, state police determined that the mother was unloading groceries from her vehicle while her daughter was playing on an outdoor play set, when she went to move the vehicle, the toddler ran out in front of it, the mother rendered aid and called 911. The child was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. State police say the mother will not be charged.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 24-year-old Sean Parkes of Oneonta on an active Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear in Court, following a Domestic Dispute Investigation. On June 24th, Deputies were dispatched to the Town of Davenport, to check the welfare of 2 individuals involved in an altercation, they arrested Parkes, he was transported to Oneonta Police Department for processing.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a 1 car property damage motor vehicle accident on Calhoun Hill Road in the Town of Andes. The Driver, 52-year-old Sasha Catus of Bronx, exhibited signs of impairment, he was charged with DWI, Driving With a BAC of .08% or greater, failure to keep right, operating a motor vehicle while on a mobile phone, and operating a vehicle without wearing a seat-belt. Catus was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Andes Court on a later date.

Sidney Village Officials announced that due to a water main repair, the village is shutting of water in the downtown area through 6:00 PM. 32 year old Anthony Schorer of Burlington was sentenced to 10 years probation in Otsego County Court. Schorer pleaded guilty to a 2nd degree criminal sexual act against a child, State Police originally arrested Schorer on January 4th and his brother, 33 year old Timothy Schorer of Hartwick on January 11th, he is due in court on June 24th. The alleged crimes happened between 2003 and 2010, the victim was between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.

The State Department of Health today announced the 1st confirmed orthopoxvirus case outside of New York City, following testing at the Wadsworth Lab in Albany. The Sullivan County health department is treating the case as a probable monkeypox case, and contact tracing efforts are underway. Broome County Transit premiered their new fully electric buses that the county will be transitioning to in the coming months. The Busses are manufactured by Nova Bus of Plattsburgh, Broome County will be the only county in the state to transition to an all-electric public transit system.

3 Buildings & 4 Vehicles were destroyed in Saturday's early morning fire on Main Street in Worcester. Firefighters were able to remove one person from 1 of the buildings, Otsego County & State Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.

State Police will participate in a national crackdown on distracted driving as part of April’s National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The enforcement effort, called Operation Hang Up, will include increased patrols and checkpoints targeting drivers using electronic devices while behind the wheel. This year’s enforcement detail will run from Monday, April 4, through Monday, April 11.

Norwich Police Department conducted a traffic stop on State Street Sunday, that resulted in the arrest of2 Norwich men on Drug Charges. Arrested were 30 year old Brett Adams of Norwich & 22 year old Brendan Smith of Norwich for criminal possession of a controlled substance, Adams and Smith were arraigned at Norwich City Court. Brett Adams was held on $1,000 cash bail, and Brendan Smith was released on his own recognizance to appear in court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Saturday to the State Hwy 10 and Falls Mills Rd in the Town of Delhi for a report of a male subject walking in the roadway. A 2nd call stated that a male subject had been struck by a passing motorist in that same vicinity. Deputies & Delhi Fire Department & EMS located 18 year old Damyan Bonilla of Chester New York, who was taken to O’Connor Hospital with injuries & he was later transferred to Bassett Medical Center for further treatment. Congressman Antonio Delgado announced that 11,131 petition signatures were delivered to the New York State Board of Elections for Delgado's reelection in New York's 19th Congressional District. New York's 19th Congressional District is expected to include all of Delaware County and parts of Broome, Chenango, & Otsego counties.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli issued a statement following the Legislature's passage of an extender bill to fund state operations, after they failed to come to an agreement on a budget plan: DiNapoli stated that the budget extender bill will ensure that more than 60,000 state employees will be paid this week, but there may be a delay.

Attorney General Letitia James announced that Cross Tie Disposal of Kentucky and company Vice President Harold Young are charged in a 42-count indictment that includes 30 counts of Falsifying Business Records and 11 counts of Endangering Public Health, Safety or the Environment. Cross Tie was supposed to dispose of old wood beams that were coated with creosote at a regulated site in Erie County but instead dumped the ties, contaminated with 11 hazardous substances at a property in Chenango County. The railroad ties have been removed as part of the Chenango County Industrial Development Agency’s Chenango County Rail Revitalization Services project in 2015 to repair and improve railroad tracks throughout the county.

Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration has lifted a 3-month pause on a new law that will require nursing homes to meet minimum standards for staffing and patient care. The law creates minimum staffing ratios and requires that nursing home residents get at least 3.5 hours per day of direct nursing care, it was approved in 2021 in response to the nursing home crisis during the pandemic, when thousands of Nursing Home residents died from the virus.

Fire destroyed 3 commercial buildings in Worcester Friday Night into Saturday Morning. The buildings were not occupied when the fire broke out, several area fire departments assisted Worcester Firefighters with the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office assisted the US Marshals in executing an arrest warrant in the Town of Maryland on 59 year old Michael Hawkins for failure to register as a sex offender. Hawkins was convicted in 1997 for child molestation in Rhode Island, he faces a maximum term of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

Governor Kathy Hochul & the State Legislature failed to pass the state budget on time Friday. Negotiations over bail reform, to-go drinks and New York City casinos stalled the completion of the budget, If the budget isn’t passed today, paychecks for state government employees will be delayed, according to state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

State Senator Fred Akshar was filing his petitions to run for the office of Broome County Sheriff at the Broome County Board of Elections office in Binghamton today. Akshar has collected over 3,100 signatures from registered Republicans in Broome County in support of his run for Broome County Sheriff, Akshar declined to run for re-election after serving in the State Senate for 3 terms.

The Greater Binghamton Sport Complex on Airport Road in the Town of Maine had its roof collapse Sunday, for the 2nd time in less than a year. The roof collapsed last December after snowfall, the structure was replaced and the roof collapsed during construction Sunday Afternoon. No injuries were reported & the investigation into the latest collapse is ongoing.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the distribution of 3,200 Turkeys statewide, for New Yorkers facing food insecurity issues on Thanksgiving. Various corporations donated over $100,000 dollars to the turkey distribution program, the turkeys will be distributed throughout every region of the State thanks to the donations and a partnership with Feeding New York State.

13 new candidates will be appearing on the 2022 National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot that is being mailed this week to approximately 400 voting members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Among the players now eligible; Alex Rodríguez, Justin Morneau, Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins; pitchers Tim Lincecum and Jake Peavy; and DH-first baseman David Ortiz will join 17 holdovers from the 2021 balloting, which failed to produce a new Hall of Famer. The State Assembly released their report regarding their impeachment investigation into former Governor Andrew Cuomo. The legislative investigation found overwhelming evidence that Cuomo engaged in sexual harassment many times and ordered state workers to help produce his book on the COVID-19 pandemic during their normal work hours. The former governor was guaranteed at least $5.2 million in personal profit for the book, the investigation into whether the Governor will have to return that money is ongoing.

Broome County DA Michael Korchak announced that a jury in Broome County Court found Scott Mawhiney guilty Friday for the attempted murder of New York State Trooper Ryan Thorp in Deposit. Mawhiney was also found guilty of and aggravated assault of a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, and 2nd-degree harassment. Trooper Thorp was shot by Mawhiney, when he was responding June 23rd to a domestic dispute in Deposit, Mawhiney faces sentencing at a later date.

Delaware County Board of Elections announced that Eric Wilson won the town of Sidney Supervisor write in race, with 313 votes, to 191 for Kevin Greene; there were 22 votes for various other write in candidates.

Delaware County Public Health reported 2 more COVID 19 deaths in their report covering Thursday & Friday; they are now up to 71 deaths since the pandemic began. Delaware County reported 59 new cases, 219 active cases and 386 quarantined, 10 are hospitalized, their positivity rate was 10.4%, and only 53% are fully vaccinated.

State Police responded to a report of a vehicle into a pond in the town of Laurens. An investigation revealed that a 56-year-old male of Hopewell Junction, NY swerved in an attempt to avoid a deer. He went off the roadway and into a pond. The man was not injured. The New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team responded to assist in removing the Dodge Challenger out of the pond. State Police remind motorists that if a deer enters the roadway brake firmly and calmly and stay in your lane. Swerving can cause you to lose control of the vehicle. If you do hit a deer, pull off to the side of the road as soon as it’s safe to do so. Turn on your hazard lights, stay in the car & Call local police.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Town of Walton October 29th, on a report of a domestic dispute, where it was alleged that 39 year old Martin Planty had stolen another person’s vehicle & threatened to cause another person bodily harm. Planty left the scene and an arrest warrant was issued by the Town of Walton Court. On November 16th, Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Planty in the Town of Davenport, Panty’s driving privileges were suspended due a failure to answer a summons, and he was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Harassment, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Speeding. Planty was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance; he is scheduled to appear at Walton & Davenport Courts at later dates.

The Broome County Health Department announced that they have reached 400 deaths from COVID-19 since March 2020. The department reported that the peak month was January of 2021 when 86 people died from the virus. Currently, there are 778 cases of COVID 19 in Broome County, with 73 hospitalized, The deadliest month was January 2021, where the county reports 86 deaths from the disease. Currently, there are 778 active cases of COVID-19 in Broome County. 73 people are hospitalized. More than 24,200 positive cases have been reported since the beginning of the pandemic.

Delaware County District Attorney John Hubbard has announced the start of his campaign for Delaware County Judge in the 2022 election. The position will be on the 2022 ballot following the announcement of retirement by Judge Richard Northrup. Hubbard was elected District Attorney in November 2016 and was re-elected in 2020, he previously served as Chief Assistant District Attorney under Northrup for 10 years, after first joining the office in 2000 as an Assistant D.A.

The Cannabis Control Board today advanced regulations for public comment that will allow for the home cultivation of medical cannabis. The regulations follow the requirements of Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act, allowing for up to three mature plants and three immature plants per person and a cap of six mature and six immature plants within any private residence. The US Attorney's office announced that 35 year old Matthew Bormann of Sherburne pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, in federal court this week. Bormann admitted that on March 12th, during a visit at his home from his United States Probation Officer, he possessed at least 3500 images and video files of child pornography on a cellular telephone he was prohibited from possessing under the conditions of his supervised release, following a 2014 federal conviction for possession of child pornography. Bormann will be sentenced for this 2nd conviction & for violating the terms of his probation on March 2nd 2022.

Butterball has issued a recall on more than 14,000 pounds of ground turkey products after consumers complained of finding pieces of blue plastic embedded in their raw ground turkey. The items being recalled are the 2.5-pound "farm to family Butterball all-natural Ground Turkey" trays with a sell-by date of October 18th, and the 3-pound "Kroger Ground Turkey" trays with an October 17 sell-by date. The items were produced on September 28, & should be returned to the place of purchase.

The FCC has adopted rules to establish 988 as the new, nationwide, 3-digit phone number for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health crisis counselors. To ensure that calls to 988 reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, area codes with a "988 Exchange, will need to transition to 10-digit dialing. Beginning THIS SUNDAY, in the 607 area, callers must dial 10-digits, the area code + telephone number, for all local calls, those who only dial the 7 digit phone number will not have their call completed, and a recording will remind the caller to hang up and dial again using the area code and the 7-digit number.

State Senator Fred Akshar announced Today that he will run for Broome County Sheriff in 2022, seeking to replace David Harder, whom Akshar served with as Broome County Undersheriff. Akshar had worked in law enforcement for 15 years prior to running for & winning the State Senate Seat & began serving his 1st term in 2015. Akshar said that he will finish out his current Senate Term & run for the Sheriff's Position next year.

Village of Delhi Police Department arrested 28-year-old Andrew Kreger for Reckless Driving, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Improper Passing. Kreger was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Delhi Town Court at a later date.

Delaware County Board of Elections announced that the Local Primary Election date is June 22nd, with the polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The statewide single-day COVID-19 positivity rate dropped to 0.44% Wednesday, and the 7-day rolling average dropped to 0.60%, & hospitalizations from COVID statewide fell below 1,000 to 970 for the first time since October 21st of last year. There were 245 ICU patients with 143 on ventilators Wednesday, over 128,000 tests were administered with 565 positive tests, and there were 10 COVID attributed deaths. The State Health Department reported that 46.3% of New Yorkers have completed their full Vaccine series.

State Supreme Court Judge Scott DelConte ruled today that the Board of Elections for all 8 counties in the 22nd Congressional District must fix their errors in the ballot counting process.  Justice DelConte said that the Board of Elections must ensure there are no more misplaced ballots, that all challenged ballots noted as challenged and all previously uncounted ballots must be counted, if those 3 items are not finished, a recount may be ordered.  Vote counts had both Anthony Brinidisi & Claudia Tenney leading by about a dozen votes at various times, after more than 28,000 ballots were counted.

Chenango County Public Health continues to see an increase in COVID 19 cases locally, with 15 more positives reported Monday.  Chenango County is up to 89 Active Cases, 6 are hospitalized & 430 are quarantined.  Chenango County had had 739 Total Cases with 632 recoveries 13 deaths and over 47,800 tests have been conducted.

State Police arrested 27 year old Brittany Cochran of Binghamton for felony Possession of a Forged Instrument; she is accused of trying to purchase a vehicle from a private seller using counterfeit money.  State Police also arrested 36 year old Hahseem McQueen of Binghamton for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, in connection with the case, both were transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing after their arrests.

Raymond Corporation’s Sales and Service Centers raised a total of $11,700 for breast cancer awareness during the 7th annual Pink Pallet Jack Project online auction.  3 Raymond powered pallet jacks were auctioned off on eBay between October 19th & the 29th, with all the proceeds split evenly between the 3 organizations,  Winning bids were accepted from 3 transportation companies, with their donations going to assist patients recovering from breast cancer treatments, both physically and financially.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 22 new cases of COVID 19 Monday; there has been a cluster of 12 cases associated with the Cooperstown American Legion.  Otsego County reports 1440 total confirmed cases, 127 active cases, 14 hospitalized, there have been 8 deaths since March.

Delaware County Public Health announced that they had 8 news COVID cases Monday, with 87 active cases 5 hospitalized & 254 are quarantined, they are up to 446 total cases with 350 recoveries & 9 deaths.

State health department tested over 173,000 New Yorkers Tuesday, with 6265 testing positive, or 3.6% of all tested.  41 died from the virus Tuesday, the state death toll is 26,482 & 2982 are hospitalized.

Chenango County Public Health continues to see smaller increases in COVID 19 cases; they reported 72 Active Cases, 5 hospitalizations & 410 Quarantines.  Chenango County reported 20 more cases since Monday, they have had 583 Confirmed Cases since March, with 503 Recoveries & over 43,400 Tests have been performed.

Broome County Health Department reported 85 more cases of COVID 19 today; they have had a total of 4937 cases.  They report 116 deaths, 4202 recoveries & about 2900 are being monitored by the department.

Rockefeller the Owl was released back into the wild early this morning.  The owl made the trip from West Oneonta to New York City on the tree that will be the official Rockefeller Center Christmas tree this year, the owl was found by workers & was turned over to the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center in Saugerties, it is expected to acclimate itself to the local Owl Population.

The Norwich City School District Board of Education announced that Scott Ryan will be the next Superintendent of the District; Ryan is expected to take over for Interim Superintendent Diana Bowers in January.

Oswego State Supreme Court Justice Scott DelConte has ordered an injunction stopping the review of ballots in the 22nd Congressional District race between Anthony Brindisi & Claudia Tenney.  Judge DelConte stated that any new motions need to be filed by the campaigns’ attorneys by 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 30th; however, the State Board of Elections set a deadline of November 28th for county boards of elections to certify and transmit their election returns to the state.  Tenney was leading Brindisi by about 200 votes when the counting of absentee ballots was stopped.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 21 new COVID 19 Cases reported Tuesday, 42 recent cases are linked to the Copper Fox in Oneonta, the department also reports a Potential exposure to COVID at the Red Jug Pub on Friday November 20th, patrons at that time should monitor for symptoms until December 4th.  Currently, Otsego County has had 1236 total confirmed cases, with 115 active cases, 6 hospitalized; there have been 8 deaths since March.  764 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta & 71 confirmed cases linked to Hartwick College

Oneonta City School District announced that they have learned of a 5th staff member COVID 19 positive case & 1 confirmed case in a student. All District schools will go fully remote until Tuesday, January 19th & then return to hybrid instruction on January 19th.  81 students are in quarantine & 27 staff members are also in quarantine.   Meal distribution will continue to take place at the designated meal distribution points on Wednesdays.

Delaware County Public Health announced that they had 9 more cases of COVID 19 Tuesday, with 5 hospitalizations, 49 active cases & 222 in quarantine.  Delaware County has had 324 total cases of COVID 19, with 266 recoveries & 9 deaths.

The Sidney Central School District has been notified that 3 members of the District have tested positive for COVID-19. The Department of Health Services is conducting and completing the contact tracing. The Health Department will be contacting people impacted by a potential exposure. There will be no change to the instructional model at this time. The district is working in collaboration with local health departments to make sure all necessary procedures are followed.

The State Department of Labor released preliminary local area unemployment rates for October, the State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 9.7% to 9.6%. Locally, Chenango County had 5% unemployment, Delaware County had 5.2% and Otsego County had 5.6% in October.

State Senator Jen Metzger of the 42nd Senate District, conceded the race to Republican Michael Martucci Tuesday.  There were 30,000 absentee ballots that needed to be counted in that district; the results confirmed Martucci's Election Day lead in the race.

The Delaware County Board of Supervisors adopted the county budget at their meeting Tuesday, several department heads received pay raises.  The budget has a property tax levy increase of about 1.7%

50 year old Richard Millard of Vestal was sentenced to 6 years in prison for starting a fire that caused Home Central in Vestal, to burn down in February. Millard was charged with 2nd degree arson, he pleaded guilty in August in Broome County Court & was sentenced there Tuesday.

November 10 was the last day absentee ballots could be received by the Board of Elections across New York State, and now those votes will be officially added to the count. There were many more absentee ballots sent out this year due to the pandemic, in New York's 22nd Congressional District race, the counting of the absentee ballots starts this week, Republican Claudia Tenney held a lead over incumbent Anthony Brindisi, but there were more than 64,000 absentee ballots requested in that district this year.

Fire Investigators in Otsego County believe that it was a spark from a lawn mower may have caused a fire that destroyed a barn in Fly Creek Tuesday. The barn was located on Hoke Road, near the Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard, it caught fire at about 12:30 Tuesday afternoon, No injuries were reported.

Chenango County Public Health announced today their latest COVID 19 numbers, they have 36 Active cases, 240 are quarantined, & 4 people are hospitalized. They report a total of 472 cases since the spring, with 9 deaths, 413 recoveries & they have conducted just under 40,000 tests.

Hartwick College reported no new cases of COVID-19 were reported, they still have 9 active cases on campus; the total number of cases detected on campus since August 1st is 66.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 4 new cases of COVID 19 Tuesday. The County has 39 active cases, no one is hospitalized, there have been 8 deaths, of the 1072 total confirmed cases, 755 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta & 64 cases are reported in Hartwick College students .

Delaware County Public Health reported another 10 cases of COVID 19 Tuesday, giving them a total of 251 since March. There are 11 hospitalized, among the 72 active cases, 240 are quarantined, 170 have recovered, the county has had 9 deaths.

The State Health department reported that 3965 people tested positive for COVID 19 Monday out of 128,036 total tests, or just over 3% of all tested. Patient Hospitalizations went up by more than 100 to 1,548, the number in ICU beds went up by 14 to 296 & the number of ventilators was up slightly to 128. There were 32 COVID Deaths, the state death toll is 26,005.

State Senator Jim Seward announced the late Corporal Michael Mayne of Burlington Flats is the 2020 inductee to the New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame from the 51st Senate District. Corporal Mayne served in the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he lost his life at the age of 21, along with 2 other American soldiers and a translator on February 23, 2009, in Iraq when insurgents attacked his unit.

Broome County Health Department announced that they are up to 374 active cases of COVID 19 bringing their total to 3619 since March. They reported 2 more deaths Monday, bringing their total to 101. 46 people are hospitalized and they have 3120 recoveries & over 5600 people are being monitored by the Health Department.

Chenango County Public Health continues to report new cases of COVID 19. Today the total number of cases is 425, 38 are active cases, 248 are quarantined, 10 are hospitalized. There have been 360 recoveries, 7 deaths & over 37,000 tests have been conducted.

Hartwick College reported Monday that no new cases of COVID-19 have been detected. There are 30 active cases on campus; the total number of cases detected on campus since August 1st is up to 55.

The State Health Department announced that 148,935 COVID 19 tests were conducted Saturday, with 2255 positives statewide. 1125 are hospitalized, the number in ICU beds is up to 259 & 117 are on ventilators, there were 17 deaths Saturday, for a total of 25,824 since March.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced the arrest of Beau Plunkett of New York on I-88 in Sidney for allegedly trafficking methamphetamines from Louisiana. Plunkett was arrested by State Police October 26th after a traffic stop in Sidney, he was charged with a felony count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. Police seized meth, a scale and packaging materials in the vehicle, Plunkett appeared in federal court in Binghamton and was turned over to U.S. Marshals

Governor Cuomo announced changes for travelers who were in another state for more than 24 hours, they must obtain a COVID test within 3 days of departure from that state & once in New York they must quarantine for 3 days. On day 4, they must take a COVID test. If both tests come back negative, the traveler may exit quarantine. For travelers who were in another state for less than 24 hours, they don't need a test prior to their departure from the other state, and they don't need to quarantine in New York State, they do need to fill out the traveler information form and take a COVID test on the 4th day in New York. The new protocol is effective this Wednesday, essential workers & those from contiguous states are exempt.

Delaware County Public Health announced Sunday that they had 3 more cases of COVID 19 to report, they are up to 31 active cases, with 4 hospitalized & 141 quarantined. They are up to 180 cases total, with 9 deaths & 140 recoveries, over 24,500 tests have been performed.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office reported that 2 people were indicted following an investigation into the death of a 23-year-old Kayla Kunkel, who was on the autism spectrum. 56-year-old Renee Kunkel and 61-year-old Edward Kunkel were indicted for 2nd degree manslaughter, Endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, & endangering the welfare of a child. Deputies & EMS responded to 40 Theresa Blvd in the town of Chenango for the report of a person not breathing, they found Kayla Kunkel and performed CPR, before she was taken to Wilson Hospital, where she later died. The investigation determined Kayla Kunkel was not capable of caring for herself and her death was from "inadequate guardianship.” 2 other children were living in the residence, in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.

The Chenango County Board of Elections announced that a hacker attack against their computer system has raised concerns that some emailed absentee ballot applications may not be processed. The Chenango Board of Elections has advised anyone who emailed an absentee ballot application after Oct. 15 to call 337-1760 to verify that it had been received. The Computers are being repaired & the State Board of elections believes the issue will not affect the election results.

The Sidney Police Department responded to a fight in progress call on Smith Street in the Village of Sidney. Officers located the victim lying on the sidewalk being tended to by local residents. Officers located 23 year old John Rathbun of Sidney at the scene; he was arrested and charged with harassment, aggravated harassment, criminal mischief & Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. Rathbun was arraigned in the Village of Sidney Court where a temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, he was released on an appearance ticket, At 7:50 PM Monday, Rathbun was found to be in violation of the temporary order of protection, he was then charged with Criminal contempt, he was arraigned virtually, & was again released & was ordered to appear in court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies performed a traffic-stop on River Street in the Village of Sidney last Thursday night; they arrested 33 year old Carmine DeClemente of Sidney for unlawful possession of marijuana & operating a vehicle without a headlight. Deputies seized an undisclosed amount of marijuana from the vehicle; DeClemente was issued an appearance ticket for the Village of Sidney Court on a later date to answer the charges.

Nicolas Meridy was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison in Otsego County Court Monday. Meridy was 1 of 4 people charged in the death of 53 year old Kenneth Robinson of Worcester, he pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder in August, in a plea bargain deal. 53-year-old Kenneth Robinson was shot and killed while being robbed in his Worcester home in October of 2019, his home was set on fire, 1 of those arrested was Robinson's son, Dylan Robinson, others arrested were 15-year-old Anias Soto, 16-year-old Alexander Borgreen for murder and burglary, 16-year-old Alexi Lottermann was charged with burglary.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded Thursday to a disturbance at the Masonville Mirabito convenience store. 67-year-old Edward Sherman of Masonville was operating a motor vehicle while his driving privileges were revoked & that he had been operating an unregistered, uninspected, and uninsured motor vehicle. Sherman was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, among other similar charges, he was released and directed to appear in the Town of Masonville Court on a later date.

Otsego County Department of Health reported Monday that they had 6 more cases of COVID 19. Since October 1, 2020 84 cases have been reported, 35 have been in college students & 49 in county residents. Of those 49 cases 25 have been linked to 2 separate weddings. 7 cases have been associated with the first wedding and 18 cases with the most recent wedding. Otsego County has had 981 total confirmed cases, there are 39 active cases, 1 hospitalization, 7 deaths, 751 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta, and 30 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students.

Delaware County reported 2 new cases of COVID-19 Monday & 1 death. The number of active cases is now 15. To date there have been 157 confirmed positive cases, with 119 people under mandatory quarantine, 11 people are at home and 4 people are in a hospital, 9 people have died and 133 have fully recovered.
