The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has been officially awarded Civil Re-accreditation by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association for the period commencing October 2025, through October 2030. Sheriff DuMond told WCDO news what this means:

DuMond said that about 30% of law enforcement agencies across the state earn the Civil Accreditation.

Norwich High School will hold its inaugural Hall of Distinction induction ceremony on Saturday at 4:30 PM in the senior high school. Committee member Anthony Testani told WCDO news who is being recognized:

Also, The Norwich High School Alumni Weekend Special will be held at the Norwich VFW Saturday night from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. The Beadle Brothers will perform & money raised will go the the Norwich Volunteer Fire Association & the Norwich VFW.

The Delaware County Historical Association is accepting nominations for their Annual Awards of Merit. Nominations should be for individuals or Groups who have made significant contributions for the preservation of local history, the awards will be presented at the Associations Annual Meeting on November 3rd. The National Baseball Hall of Fame Announced that former Major League Manager Jim Leyland will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer in Cooperstown. Leyland took the Florida Marlins to a World Series title in 1997, he had several winning seasons managing the Pittsburgh Pirates & Detroit Tigers with 6 first-place finishes, 3 pennants, he won the Manager of the year Award 3 times. The Hall of Fame Weekend 2024 will be held July 19-22 in Cooperstown, with the Class of 2024 to be inducted at 1:30 pm. on Sunday, July 21, on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center. The Baseball Writers' Association of America will announce the results of its Class of 2024 Hall of Fame voting on January 23rd.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 49-year-old Kenneth Drumm of Waverly, following the execution of a search warrant in Windsor yesterday. Drumm was charged with multiple counts of criminal sale & criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia & Criminal possession of a weapon. Police seized crystal meth, a loaded shotgun, digital scales, and packaging materials used for weighing and packaging narcotics for sale. Drumm was being held at the Broome County Sheriff's Correctional Facility pending court action.

The National Rifle Association filed a lawsuit Friday against Governor Cuomo & the State Department of Financial Services, the NRA Accuses accusing them of coercing banks and insurance companies to withhold services to the gun lobbying group. The lawsuit asks the court to award unspecified monetary damages to the NRA and stop the state from prohibiting the insurance companies from doing business with the gun lobby group. Cuomo said the NRA's lawsuit is a desperate attempt to advance its agenda to sell more guns.
School Budget Votes and Board of Education Seats will be decided across the state tomorrow. The majority of school tax levy increases are at or below the state spending cap, according to the New York State School Board Association, more than half of the Board of Education seat races have only 1 candidate running.

A vigil was held at Memorial Park in Binghamton this morning, to remember those killed 8 years ago today at the American Civic Association immigration center on Front Street by Jiverly Wong of Johnson City. 13 people were killed inside the center; Wong eventually turned a gun on himself. It was one of the largest homicides in US history.

Community members will honor those who died in the American Civic Association shooting five years ago with a special ceremony Saturday at 1:00 PM. Those in attendance will remember the 13 victims of the ACA shooting, at the downtown memorial on the corner of Clinton and Front streets in Binghamton. The ACA Memorial includes a central granite column with a glass shaft rising from the center that is illuminated at night. Symbolizing the tragedy's rippling effect in the community are 13 sculptures of illuminated birds in flight.
The Binghamton Senators announced that the annual Face Off Against Cancer presented by Lourdes Hospital would take place tomorrow at the Broome County Arena at 7:05p.m. Fans attending the game are encouraged to visit the various cancer awareness displays and meet the 2014 American Cancer Society Relay for Life teams that will be present throughout the arena concourse.
