60 year old Ann Affolder of Binghamton, was arrested after she struck multiple trick-or-treaters with her vehicle on Halloween in the Town of Chenango on South Morningside Drive. Deputies & 1st responders found the vehicle with an adult male still trapped underneath, 1st responders were able to successfully extricate the victim, 4 victims were injured, 3 were transported to Wilson Hospital. The investigation revealed that Affolder was backing out of a driveway when the vehicle accelerated onto the street and struck 4 people, Affolder was charged with Vehicular Assault, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, & Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance for Methamphetamines, she was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail.
State Troopers responded last Tuesday to State Highway 28 near County Highway 6 in the town of Middletown for a 2-vehicle crash. An investigation determined that an SUV driven by 36 year old Natasha Reed of Delhi crossed into on-coming traffic, into the path of an SUV driven by 57 year old Ernest Bilzer of Fleischmanns. Reed was pronounced deceased at Margaretville Hospital, Bilzer was transported to O’Connor Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is on-going.
Delaware County Sheriffs Office arrested 43 year old James Clark of Stamford for Promoting Prison Contraband, Last Week members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division investigated a report from Corrections personnel in which an incarcerated individual was found to be in possession of medication that he had diverted.  Clark was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband, Clark was later arraigned, where bail was set at $1,000 cash and $2,000 bond on the new charge. Clark was then remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Jail on the original charges.

Members of the Assembly Minority Conference announced legislation that would suspend state sales tax on a wide range of goods and services in order to provide New Yorkers with financial relief necessary to manage skyrocketing prices. Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay explains:

The “Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan” calls for eliminating sales tax charges for 2 years. The State Senate Minority Republican Conference also unveiled the ‘End the Exodus’ economic plan to deal with inflation spikes and the ongoing exodus of New Yorkers leaving the state for other affordability locations with perceived better economic opportunity than in New York State.
The results of the 78th Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame election will be revealed at 6:00 PM tonight live from the Hall of Fame Plaque Gallery in Cooperstown. The event will be carried by the MLB Network, as Hall of Fame President Josh Rawitch delivers the results. The Ballot features 30 players, including 13 new candidates and 17 returnees. Those announced tonight will join Bud Fowler, Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat, Minnie Miñoso, Buck O’Neil and Tony Oliva at the inductions in Cooperstown in July.

The Associated Press is reporting this morning that Former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has died while serving a prison sentence in a corruption case. Silver died Monday, he was 77, and he had been sentenced to more than six years in prison for using his clout in state government to benefit real estate developers. The conviction ended a four-decade career in the Assembly.

The New York State Cannabis Control Board will hold a public meeting of the Board at 1:00 pm. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 via real-time live streaming. The public is able to observe this meeting from a mobile device or computer on our live webcast at players.brightcove.net.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Jeremiah Clark of Roxbury for possessing stolen property and falsifying business records. On November 7th, Deputies investigated a report of stolen scrap steel and copper from a building in the Town of Stamford, which were sold to Otsego Auto Crusher’s in Davenport. On January 14th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division assisted State Police with the execution of a search warrant on a residence in the Town of Roxbury, they charged Clark with Falsifying Business Records and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, he was arraigned at the Town of Roxbury Court and was released on his own recognizance. Clark is scheduled to appear at the Town of Roxbury Court at a later date.
Otsego County Chamber of Commerce announced that Sean Lewis has been named new President & CEO, replacing interim president Al Rubin, who stepped in following the departure of Barbara Ann Heegan in 2020. Lewis previously worked locally in the Sales Staff at the Daily Star in Oneonta.

Governor Cuomo said that he is not stepping down; Attorney General James said that next steps are up to Governor Cuomo, the State Assembly, and the general public, but her office's investigation is considered to be over.  State Leaders from both parties are calling for the Governor Cuomo's resignation.
