Greater Oneonta Historical Society & Otsego 2000 are sponsoring a Walking Tour of downtown Oneonta on Saturday. The tour will focus on opportunities and threats in the Oneonta Downtown Historic District, which the State Preservation League has named to its bi-annual “7 To Save” list. The tour will leave from the Oneonta History Center at 183 Main Street at 3:00 PM and is by donation. In case of inclement weather, the tour will be held on Sunday.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $387 million is being delivered to 1,452 local governments across the New York State to help boost their pandemic response infrastructure. The announcement is part of the State's ongoing preparation efforts to tackle any potential pandemic-related surges this fall and winter. This financial backing is made possible by the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, part of the American Rescue Plan Act, which provides relief for smaller local governments who have shared in the public health response. Chenango County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution to implement a 4%
occupancy "Bed" tax in Chenango County. The new Law will provide a
dedicated funding stream to promote and develop the tourism industry in
Chenango County and to reduce pressure on the property tax levy. Chenango County has been one of just a few
counties in New York State that had not previously collected a bed tax. Tourism is New York’s 3rd largest industry,
hosting 253 million visitors annually who spend 71.8 billion at NYS businesses
creating 114.8 billion in economic impact.

Legion in Norwich, where over 30 volunteers will shave their heads to raise
money for childhood cancer research.

The American Hockey League will still have a team located in Binghamton following the recent announcement that the Ottawa Senators were moving their franchise out of Binghamton to Belleville Ontario Canada. State Troopers arrested 25-year-old John Posson of Norwich for 3rd degree Assault, following a complaint by a woman that claimed that she was punched in her right eye, during a fight at the American Legion in South Otselic. Posson was released with a ticket returnable to the Town of Otselic Court on October 13th.

The Binghamton Senators announced Tuesday, it has reached an agreement with its parent National Hockey League club, the Ottawa Senators, to remain their American Hockey League affiliate. The agreement will keep the B-Sens the top affiliate for Ottawa through the next five seasons. Ottawa, who has been affiliated with Binghamton since AHL hockey returned in 2002.
