Delaware County Public Health announced that a cat from the town of Franklin tested positive for rabies. The stray cat attacked one person and a dog on September 20th, the individual delayed calling Public Health until September 24th, 2017; the cat was then sent for testing to Wadsworth lab on September 25. The person is receiving rabies Prophylaxis treatment. The dog was up to date on its rabies vaccinations and will receive a booster. The next free rabies clinic will be on October 18, 2017, from 6PM-8PM, at the Delhi Fire Hall, more information is available at 832-5200 or delawarecountypublichealth.com
The Cancer Services Program of Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie will offer free health screenings to women 40 or older who are uninsured/underinsured, in partnership with Bassett Healthcare. State Police at Deposit arrested 21-Year-old Scott Primavera of Guilford, Connecticut for felony criminal possession of marihuana, after a traffic stop for speeding on State route 17 in the Town of Hancock. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of over 16 ounces of marihuana. Primavera was arraigned in the Town of Hancock jail and was remanded to the Delaware County jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bond.
Following the investigation into a disabled vehicle on August 13th, in the village of Delhi. Deputies arrested 37-year-old Robert Avery of Utica On 1 count of Criminal Possession of Stolen property. Avery is accused of being in possession of a vehicle that was reported stolen in Utica August 7th, he was arraigned in Village of Delhi Court and sent to Delaware County Jail on $3000 cash or $6000 property bond bail.

A skunk has tested positive for rabies in the Village of Delhi. The Skunk was sent to the State Rabies Laboratory, The positive test results were received Friday & there was 1 human exposure. Delaware County Public Health is coordinating the Rabies Post Exposure Prophylaxis treatment the adult will be receiving. The next scheduled rabies clinics are at the Sidney Fire Hall on August 10th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM & the Delhi Fire Station on October 19th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A former Delaware County Sheriff sergeant was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury Thursday for attempting to murder. Theodore Tiska of Masonville was indicted for second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault for attempting to intentionally cause the death of his wife on April 18 in the town of Masonville. Tiska is being held on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond; He is scheduled to be arraigned in Delaware County Court on May 9th.

The Delaware county emergency services department announced that Delaware County sent 5 crews to Ulster County this morning. Bloomville, Delhi (2 crews), Sidney and Walton. They all arrived safely at their staging area, had a morning briefing meeting and were sent to the woods shortly after 8am. They are now out working the fire lines.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Pennsylvania man on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Tompkins Court earlier this year based on a complaint from an area business. Deputies arrested and charged 58-year-old Rowland Harris of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania for Issuing a Bad Check, & 4th degree Grand Larceny. Harris is accused of stealing property, valued in excess of $1000, for building materials, which he obtained from that business. He has been additionally charged with being a Fugitive from Justice. Harris was arraigned and posted a $10,000 bail bond in the Columbia County, Pennsylvania; he surrendered to Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies as ordered by the Columbia County Magistrate Court.

Picinich will appear in the Town of Walton Court on September 23rd.

The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for July 2015. Locally, Delaware county unemployment rate was 5.8%, Chenango County was at 5.2% and Otsego County had 5.3% unemployment in July. In addition, between June and July 2015, the state’s unemployment rate dropped 1/10th to 5.4%,.
The 2nd annual "Delaware County Senior Fun Day" will be held at Delaware County 4H-Camp Shankitunk in Delhi tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The Delaware County Office for the Aging is collaborating with co-sponsors Delaware Opportunities and the Delaware County Senior Council. Shuttle buses will be operating all day from SUNY Delhi to and from the event. The event is open to seniors age 60 and over who registered this summer.

The annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament, held at the Delhi College Golf Course, will take place on Friday, May 8, 2015, according to the Big Wheels tournament committee. The event serves as a primary fundraiser for programs and services which provide assistance to Delaware County senior citizens. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old William Crandall of Norwich for 1st degree Criminal Contempt and Aggravated Harassment. The charges stem from a domestic dispute last month, Crandall was issued appearance tickets to return to Delhi Town Court today to address the charges.

The State Labor Department today released unemployment rates for May. The state's unemployment rate was 7.6% in May, locally Chenango County’s rate dropped ½% to 6.9%, Delaware County’s rate dropped 4/10’s to 7.9% and Otsego County’s rate dropped ½% to 6.9% in May.
